It was not a great experience eating at the Zen Garden in the Fetcham area of Leatherhead. Not much of a set price menu, nor at each as much as you like menu. The individual dishes were expensive and only average and drinks prices were rocket high. We found the staff to be indifferent. It lacked any ambience and was not busy. I suppose it was mid week night that could have had something top do with it. After our meal 2 out of 3 of us that ate here had minor tummy upsets during the night. Not a great end to a poor night out. Maybe we went on a bad night but it has put us off returning for life. At least the restaurant had a large free park.

Zen Garden is located in what appears to be an old pub with lovely exposed wooden beams and quite an eclectic layout. Several restaurants have occupied this site The current owners have decorated the place well and installed some lovely ornaments. They’ve mixed some nice old style self-contained waterfall units together with high tech fixtures like the AirBlade hand-dryers in the toilets. I was a guest at a pharmaceutical rep’s dinner tonight and we were very looked after. The staff never stopped enquiring after us and refilling glasses and pots of tea. The food was very light and not greasy as Chinese food can sometimes be. The plate of mixed starters contained smoked bang bang chicken, sesame prawn toast, fried wontons, spare ribs and deep fried seaweed The middle course of aromatic crispy duck went down well. For main course, we had steamed sea bass, deep fried shredded beef, chicken with mixed vegetable and beef in black bean sauce, all accompanied by egg fried rice and plain fried noodles The restaurant gave us complementary teffee banana and apple with ice cream for dessert Overall a solid Anglo-Canto dining experience
