Two Brewers Inn

Stayed here three summer time nights. The windows barely open and of course there’s no a/​c… and the room smelled of cheap deodorizer, which didn’t make me happy. But what bothered me most was that there was no soap in the bathroom… I had to buy some at the ‘petrol’ station down the road. Seriously, how many people travel with their own bar of soap? Sorry, but that seems so basic these days.
The advertised free internet was down for my stay. And the couple of meals I had were just plain awful.
The up side: i’s a cute location, the price per room was reasonable, the bar I guess was good for anything but wine and I was near where I needed to be. In short, draw your own conclusions — and take your meals somewhere else!

Average pub but the food is good and the staff pleasant. Overlooking the village cricket green a splendid view while having a pint.

This pub has been here for a long long time and the location is perfect for a summer’s afternoon beer in the garden watching the town play on the green. or even catch in a cricket game.
This is a classic old style English pub, good ales, good food and not sure if its still there but they also have a room upstairs you can book for functions.

Set in the tranquil, rural part of Hertfordshire where Watford feels miles and worlds away, lays the Two Brewers Inn situated on a cricketers common. Now this is a pub that is perfect for all seasons and normally I have summer and then winter pubs. Come summer the common is full of picnic goers, ball games and people quietly watching cricket or basking in the sun. The pub allows you to take all drinks onto the common provided they are in plastic cups. Winter sees a roaring log fire, stone floors, moody lighting and warming hearty food. Service is great and the bar staff will tend to any request, including getting a vintage look pop bottle back out of the bin because I ‘collect’ them for my kitchen display, and then being asked to go back to rummage for the lid also was done with grace and a smile. I hope.
There’s curry nights, steak nights, valentines do’s, Easter luncheons, Christmas feasts and a basically celebration for every occasion or theme. Food is back on top after a recent change of hands and the chefs here produce quality food, at slightly higher end pub prices but quickly. I enjoyed my lunch here yesterday with greedy gusto.
There are a number of hotel rooms upstairs and I would love an excuse to stay here but think it would defeat the object as live 20 mins drive away. Outside seating consists of a cute courtyard off the hotel area or seating over looking the common and all its country charm. Sigh.

Spent new years day at the pub with friends and I honestly say the worst food and service I have ever received.
Manager not in control and staff knew it ! Avoid like the plague…

Spent New Year here 2009 – 1010, and it was nice enough apart from the Kitchen staff getting drunk and dancing rather took over the dance floor– even though our group had paid quite alot of money to stay in hotel part and for meal/​drinks– this spoilt the evening a bit as I had drinks spilt all over me by their careless behaviour.
This also meant dance floor– was unsafe and not what I and my family had paid alot of money to stay/​spend new year having to be putting up with their behaviour, as they had no regards for paying guests…
The Manger thought this was acceptable and was seen laughing with them all– I found it offensive to have paid alot of money to be there to celebrate my new year and have drunken staff being ignorant and throwing their drinks around on the dancefloor… needs a big review of Staff attitudes I think…
The Receptionist– the older one was ignorant oo and very rude and tried to overcharge on room rate when we had agreed prices pre-​booking then slagged off her colleagues who had been the reason we had booked as had been lovely on previous hotel stay and dinner…
over-​rated and need to get a grip of what a good place they have and get some staff retrained!

From my point of view this pub has gone down hill. I had a very average meal last Thursday and was throwing up before I got home. I had to take time off work and was ill all over the weekend. I have tried very hard to be believed and taken seriously but I’m still waiting for an apology from the arrogant manager.
This used to be a a great place for a meal and one which I have visited on many occasions. The location is idylllic but I will not be going back there again. I understand that the manager is new and has only been in post a matter of weeks so maybe the pub has deteriorated since then.
The service was barely average and we had to take all orders to the bar — even for a jug of tap water — and had to carry a huge jug, seven glasses, a bottle of wine and wine glasses outside to our table oursleves. The waiting staff would not even bring additional wine/​drinks to the table when they served the meal,.We had to go back to the bar, queue and get it ourselves. I have never come across this before. Even in pubs where you order food from the bar, waiting staff are always willing to bring additional drinks to your table.
A below average dining experience followed by four days of ill health. This pub does not deserve any stars in my opinion, but it will not allow me to submit without giving at least one star!

Had a poor experience here. seven of us arrived and four had to revert to a second choice starter. Three had to revert to second choice main and 1 a third choice. Dessert was the same as they had run out of cheese cake and another dessert which again meant three of us had to reorder. One unlucky person in our party had second choice starter, third choice main (see comments below re Chicken) and no dessert. They had the nerve to add the items that were not available to the bill as well. One steak sent back three times as it was not cooked to medium (It was raw in the middle) Avoid the chicken skewers unless you enjoy eating dried leather with over micro waved rice. It was a Sunday evening but should that matter.
Toilets were filthy. Would I go back? No.

The sort of pub you think of when imagining the picture perfect country pub.
Sitting opposite a lovely village cricket green and church, The Two Brewers is part gastro restaurant, part pub. The two mix well with plenty of room for drinkers alongside the table. The building is rustic and has an open fire in the winter.
Meals are very good and the choice wide. Prices are on the steep side but you feel at the end of the meal as it is money well spent.
