I would definitely give the food a solid solid four stars. My wife and I split a lamb Sunday roast with carrots as a side. I also enjoyed a pint of Cotswold ale(3.8) as recommended by the staff. Definitely lots of care put into the food. Nice homemade bread came to start. Atmosphere is cosy and very upscale country pub. Wha put me off was the staff who scoffed at us sharing. Call me weak, but I ha enough food just splitting the roast. On top of that everyone else we saw threw away half their food, so we thought why order too much? We also thought service was poor– especially when they asked us to wait to order. When we said we did not want puddings, the waitress rolled her eyes like we were the worst people ever. Would much rather eat at the wild rabbit any day, where they did nothing but offer great and friendly service(we even sat there for about an hour after this meal and they brought us hot madeleines for free). I wish this experience was better.

I have never been to Kingham and had only read about the Plough online. It was an amazing experience. Sometimes you can believe what you read on the internet! Our party of three(myself and my parents) arrived at noon and were quickly seated in a cozy corner of the dining room. The stuffed giraffe head made us chuckle. We were quickly offered a drink and those we chose were tasty. The owner/waiter told us which of the menu items he recommended(«If I were to be dining here today…») and he was correct. The pheasant terrine was stunning. All three of us ordered the Sunday Roast Lunch. Bountiful servings of venison, roast beef, and a pheasant partridge roll arrived. Cooked to perfection. The sides — roasted potatoes(the Platonic idea was achieved here) and cauliflower cheese — were also plentiful and tasty. Even so, we saved room for pudding and what a pudding it was. I recommend the Guernsey Milk and Borage(light, dreamy) and the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Throughout, service was impecable. I highly recommend.

This pub is mega-hella-charming. Like, seriously: charming like WHOAH. With the motto of making traditional food with modern methods, the Kingham Plough hits all the right chords. First point of success: delicious, and deliciously hot, coffee. Things were looking good. Things started looking — and tasting — GREAT, however, when my aged Hereford beef burger arrived on its house-made English muffin, alongside thrice-fried chips. Things I loved: — I asked for the burger cooked medium, and it was cooked medium — all butchery is done in-house — the chips were perfectly seasoned — the house-made English muffin made me wish the Kingham Plough were open for breakfast, too(I am torturing myself with visions of a muffin, egg and bacon) — the salad was interesting(little bits of radish were the secret star) and well-dressed — the servers were hyper-attentive — the extra mayonnaise provided was amazingly flavoured and textured and made me want to take a bath in it(too much?) — an overt focus on locally sourced products(the server mentioned an effort to bring everything in from a 15 mile radius of the restaurant) and special shout-outs to the homemade icecream made with Nell’s Dairy Guernsey milk — for the quality of food, the prices were very reasonable Gentle points of criticism: — a little(too) dimly lit — a little chilly in the dining room — the house-made ketchup read more as a chutney or tomato jam than a ketchup, leaving my chips a little disappointed Perfect roadtrip-from-London destination. Unilocal note: online reservation system, FTW! Plus, the pub dog *blogs* so, y’know, points for a social media-savvy pup.
