Trattoria Roma

My favourite Italian, no contest. This place has been here for years and years and it’s easy to see why. Absolutely lovely staff who are always happy to see you, cheap prices and a good tasty plate of food. You’re never under or over dressed, a wide variety of passing strangers to hungry locals stop in for some food.
Huge platefuls of hearty Italian food. No pretentious nonsense, this is the food I imagine Italian grannies make. Warms your tummy and warms your heart.

I went here for my work Christmas lunch. A tenner for two courses and a drink is not bad to be honest. We had heard reports that the service was quite slow, but given there were about forty of us and two waiters on, it wasn’t actually too bad! I had lentil soup. It was really good, but not quite as good as my maw’s!
They also gave us some complimentary foccacia which was absolutely amazing and really tasty! For my main course I had Pollo Milanese which was a bloody massive piece of chicken and some spaghetti. Given that I’m usually only used to having a bowl of soup for my lunch, I was already struggling. It was really tasty, the breadcrumbs on the chicken were really light and tasty and the bolognese wasn’t too heavy.
All in all, I really enjoyed my lunch at Trattoria Roma and will be dragging the OH here in the New year!

I’m surprised to be adding this restaurant to Unilocal,I’m probably making a mess of things and it’s already on, but well I couldn’t find it and I wanted to review it so here goes.
I’ve heard lots of good things about this place and of people coming far and wide to eat here. I was treating my aunt for her birthday and though we’d try a take away from here. My aunt is the slowest eater alive, yes yes it may be a medical problem but it still is annoying, so take away is always a good idea.
I was attracted to Trattoria Roma not just because of the buzz I’d heard but because it seems to be a nice restaurant doing take away which you don’t often see, well at least not out in the sticks.
Firstly not that impressed with the take away part, it’s a tiny wee window which looks into the kitchen with about 3ft by 2ft of room at the counter. Looking into the kitchen part was good, but the service was slow and disjointed. I was maybe a wee bit hard done by as I arrived after what looked like the delivery man. The server/​chef who seemed to be running the pass at the same time didn’t get round to me for about 10 minutes. I was only one of two other people waiting and when I got my food it had clearly been waiting for those 10 minutes. Not a good sign or a good way to start. After I got it I zipped back to my aunts, despite the wait all the food was warm.
I accidently ordered the special, what it was called I don’t know, it was delicious. It was veal covered in battered aubergines, inside the batter was parmesan cheese and a tomato sauce with a black olive on top of the fritter. It really was outstanding I really can’t compliment it enough. Sides were roast vegetables and chips. The chips were chips no complaints but no great shakes, the roast vegetables were absolutely great, great mix of: peppers, onions tomatoes and a few other things.
Well I here you ask if it was this good why are you only giving it three stars. The answer… my aunts meal, which I tried. She ordered pizza, not so weird me trying it, vegitalia, which was in essence a vegetarian pizza. I don’t have quibbles eating veggie pizza although this broccoli on it which I found a bit weird. What do you expect from an Italian when you order pizza, a safe bet that’s what. However the pizza was rubbish, too thick and nearly rock hard, nothing like how a good Italian pizza should be. Neither of us enjoyed it and my aunt stated we should have gone to Pizza Hut. Enough said.
I would go again but I would stay well clear of the pizza.

This is my favourite Italian restaurant outside of Italy! I love it! We eat in quite often and always get great service! The staff recognise us and we always have good banter with them! Their take away service is every bit as good as the dining experience!!!
