12 of us booked a table at Leonardo’s for a work leaving doo. The bill came to £475 so they did quite nicely out of us. The food was very mediocre, ok but only mediocre but the service was atrocious. It was quite a busy evening but it was almost impossible to flag someone down for service! In 3 hours I had 3 small beers(at £4.25 a piece!), I would have had more if I got waited on more often. The evening turned out to be a long, dull one as the service was so poor. There’s loads of cheap Italian restaurants in Brighton & Hove and this is one neither I nor my colleagues will be visiting again.

Although we ended up sitting next to Michael Aspel, the food was mediocre and the service almost unacceptable. However, I’ve heard good things from others, so I would give it another go.

Brighton is absolutely packed with budget Italian dining establishments, and Leonardo is no different. At certain time you can get certain pastas and pizzas for £2.99, obviously the quality is reflected but you cant too wrong with Italian cuisine. Great for large families and the place is usually full of them so maybe not the most romantic place for a date.

With the 2-for-1 offer when you order a starter and main, the food here really is a bit of a steal! My wife and I often go here for this very reason. All the typical Italian dishes are there. They are very tasty and beautifully presented. The pasta, fish and meat are all good. I only have 2 gripes, which are why I can’t give this place 5 stars. 1. The service. It really is hit and miss, with waiters often preferring to tell each other jokes at the bar than serve the punters. 2. Although you only pay half price when ordering a starter and main course(for example I had fried whitebait followed by fillet steak), the service charge is calculated at full price and is also 12%, which is higher than the standard 10%. So if your total food bill before discount comes to 50 quid, you pay 25 for the food but 6 quid tip. Drinks are obviously extra and not discounted, which is fair enough. A small niggle, I admit, but worth knowing before you order. Overall I would definitely recommend this place, as long as you are not in a hurry or keen on attentive waiters.

Although Leonardo may seem like another bargain Italian that Brighton is full of, its nice to enjoy budget prices in a reasonable restaurant environment. Known for its ridiculous cheapness Leonardo offers £2.99 Pizza & Pasta at certain times of the week so its always worth checking out if you’re looking for a cheap but eatable meal. It’s also open late(11pm) and they don’t object to late arrivals which is always a bonus as it can be a mission to eat in town after 10pm in Bton, particularly in the winter months. The menu is extensive and they also offer a 6 quid set menu, how cheap?! You get what you pay for but you cant really go wrong with Italian.
