Reliable purveyor or sandwiches, drinks soups and spuds, the Grand Cochon is on Western Road at the top of Landsdowne Place. All the usual sarnies and baguettes are available and the staff are chirpy and helpful. Two things to know. On Friday(just Fridays) they do sublime roast pork and stuffing sarnies with crackling and apple sauce that are not to be missed. Two: it’s only a short walk down to the sea. Why not grab a bite and take it down to a bench on the beach or Hove Lawns? Lovely in summer.

I often work up at the end of Western Road near Palmeira Square, as a result I can’t help but frequent this comically named sandwich deli. The young lady who works here is extremely friendly, always helping you decide if the plethora of options becomes too much to bare. I personally generally pluck for coronation chicken in a brown bap, no butter(specific or what). They also sell things like sausage rolls, scotch eggs and a multitude of other lunchtime treats. Very good all round.

For those like myself who are lucky enough to live near Le Grande Cochon, lunchtimes are rarely threatened by a lack of decent places to eat. Let’s say you’re wandering down Western Road and you fancy trying somewhere different from your usual. If you pass Le Grande Cochon without buying something you are a criminal. Not only are all their sandwiches great value but the service is amazingly friendly and accommodating. Costing between £2 and £4 you’d be hard pressed to get such great tasting sandwiches at such good value anywhere else.

Follow the big pink pig and a yummy sandwich you will be granted. The Big Pig is a meat-centric deli so if your vegetarian perhaps not the best place for a snack, if you like big meaty rolls like me you’ll love it.

A Hove institution! The hot sandwiches are particularly good.

Oh how lucky I am to have such a lovely place opposite my flat. I regularly saunter across the road for what always proves to be a satisfying lunch. The service is always spot on and the staff are usually more than willing to get involved in a bit of banter, which is the kind of quality that sorts the wheat from the chaff in sandwich making terms. Everything ranges from £2 to £4, which is great value for such tasty sandwiches. Worth pigging out on!

I love this little sandwich/deli shop and have given it an extra star(sorry previous reviewer) as it concentrates more on their meat eating clientele than the burger-dodging veggies. I’ve got nothing against vegetarians but there’s plenty of places in town(come on, this is Brighton) to get a goat’s cheese and walnut filled pita bread and not too many where they fill your sandwich so full of pastrami you feel like your in New York. The prices are a little higher than your average Subway but then there’s not really any comparison quality wise in regards to food or service. There’s a couple of nice little tables outside too that you can sit and watch the world go by while enjoying your food. Ideal if you live in Hove and are walking into town to sit and fill up for lunch before hitting the crowds.

This is a nice little sandwich shop that feels like a family-run affair. Everyone is very friendly, the menu is generous as are the sandwiches which are made up in soft baps, or crusty sliced bread. They have plates piled high with what look like excellent sausage roles, pasties, and pies. My only small quibble and the reason I didn’t give them another star is that their choice of vegetarian food is limited… which is a little unfair and subjective as they did warn me by having a large pink pig on the window, and a lovely punning name.
