Hetton Sports Complex

Its now up and running. I love it here. It is clean! and I like the way its open plan so you can see the lockers.

The new Hetton Coalfield swimming pools construction works is progressing very well.

Looks like being completed late November but will probably not open till January.
Completed now and is opening January 10^th or 17^th 2010. Pellikaan Construction Ltd UK have done a very professional job of the building and should be commended. New webpage address for this information is
Official opening day on thursday 14^th January and it looks worth the wait. hopefully I will get some more good pictures.:) The pools and fitnesse centre are now open to the public so lets hope its put to good use by local people. Unfortunately due to a change of government, concessions to under 16’s and over 60’s will cease at the end of July so a lot of families and over 60’s will be disappointed as the cost to some will be out of their reach. The proposed new glass along the side of the building (being designer and wont be cheap and there are MUCH cheaper materials available) is on show in the building, but maybe if this cost was used instead for concessions for people who qualify maybe it would be a better idea in this time of allround cutbacks! Bearing in mind an already public viewing area inside is available where the public can pay to watch what is happening in the building.

Hetton Sports Complex is currently being knocked down and the plans are for a new Swimming Pool to be built, fingers crossed.

The swimming pool at Hetton has been closed for ages with vague promises of building a new one. the council has finally bothered to start the rebuilding which i am very pleased about but it has taken long enough.
this sports complex was always full of families taking their kids to swimming lessons etc so hopefully the new centre will be built soon!
