Beautiful pub surrounded by some of the best walks in Sussex, this really is a special place oozing with atmosphere. There’s a heavy emphasis on the food here but you don’t get the feeling its a ‘gastropub’ in anyway. The staff are very down to earth and the front and rear garden really add to the whole enjoyable experience. Food wise, I’d head there for a Sunday roast and go for the beef! Its lovely and rare and very enjoyable with a large glass of the house red.

Stopped off on way back to London. Got here with at 1330. Two hungry kids and four adults. Waited 20 mins to see a waitress. After waiting a further 35 mins after the order I asked the waitress how long the food would be as we’ve waited 45 mins and have hungry children. I was told, that we hadn’t waited 45 mins and she had just put the order thru, but would check on it. 10 mins later was told they are plating up. The omelette was an inch thick of which three quarters was air. Obviously just whacked under a grill truly awful. Ribs had cold bones and mixed heat meat. When I asked if microwaved the response was«do you want me to heat it again». I said I just wanted to know if they were nuked. She came back and said they were roasted this morning and reheated. Weird answer and bland tasting. Wings were hot and tasteless, save for a dollop of chilli jam smeared. Two people had steaks which were fine. Kids chicken fillet was a dry fillet on a bun. Underwhelming and poor. Kids cheeseburger was burnt to a crisp. When we raised our feedback to the manager, the waitress poked her nose in and said if we didn’t like it we should have complained at the time and she would have changed it. The manager said all her other customers love the food. Look I understand this is part of the Mountain Range, but no excuse for serving 80s style slop. Oh, btw even though we complained nothing was offered, not even a desert or coffee. Avoid and go to a harvester if you want an upscale version of this place. PS they have a cute skittle alley that nowone said may be a distraction for hungry kids.
