My dad and I decided to go for a Sunday lunch at the last minute, and knowing Berkshire we were aware we would have a problem squeezing in anywhere. We tried a couple of places and then stopped here, and we were so pleased we did. The interior of the place isn’t as stylised as other pubs nearby, so was missing the trendy yummy mummy/BMW set which wasn’t a bad thing. There were also a LOT less kids around than usual at Sunday lunchtime, so I for one was content. I had no idea what to expect, but the food itself was brilliant. The portions were extremely generous, so by the end of a shared whitebait starter and a roast gammon main I was absolutely stuffed, and begrudgingly turned down the opportunity for one of their amazing looking deserts. The whitebait was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside yet light and not at all oily. The gammon was stunning; succulent and so flavoursome, the side of cauliflower-cheese was YUM, and the ratio of gravy to solids was perfect. We can’t wait to go back, hopefully to sample their incredible looking fresh fish menu.
