Enigma is one of those restaurants that got a rave review from a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend so we went. We were not disappointed. We took my future mother in law there for her birthday meal and even though it was a Monday evening the place was open and about a quarter full — not something you see often in these tough financial times. All my family are fish eaters and so they definitely came to the right plaice — boom boom! The Portavogie prawns with chilli and garlic butter went down a treat while I had the chicken with satay sauce — just peanut-y enough to keep my mouth watering for more and not too sickening as I have experienced in other places. For the main I had a sirloin steak with tobacco onions and confit of tomato while they had some seemingly delicious delicacy from the Irish sea — i’ll just take their word for it. I’m not into fish. All the food was beautiful but my favourite part was the dessert — after struggling with my guilt for 0.3 seconds I ordered the the raspberry cheesecake and as no one else was having dessert I made the waitress promise to bring only one spoon! I know the old ‘can I taste yours’ trick — well no, you can’t. All in all a lovely evening. The waitress turned out to be the owner as well and she gave us great service. only one little mishap took place when she forgot to bring us the wine until half way through the main but she more than made up for that by bringing us each a drink on the house. They offer a tapas style glass of wine and nibbles in the afternoons which I will be taking advantage of very soon as I really enjoyed our visit and will look forward to heading back.
