A friend recommended this restaurant to us, so we decided to book a table and give it a try. Knowing that the venue has served as various types of restaurant in the past, first impressions were that it has been given quite a good makeover, right down to the colour theme of the island of Santorini. The welcome from the staff was friendly and we were shown to our table straight away and left with the wine list. Whilst not extensive, there are a number of Greek wines to choose from so we tried the Makedonikos, a medium dry white wine that went quite well with our food. Of course, being a Greek restaurant we had to start with a mezze, and there’s certainly plenty to choose from here. We tried a small variety of dishes including the calimari, tzatziki and hummus, all of which were delicious. Next, the selection of main courses provides plenty of choice and we both decided to try the Stifado, a favourite of mine since I first tried it in Cyprus a few years ago. The beef is so well cooked here until it is really tender and just falls apart on your fork and the sauce is full of flavour. Highly recommended :) My only comment on the restaurant itself is that, although they’ve tried to capture the essence of Greece, it’s not *quite* there yet. The lighting seemed just a bit too bright and behind the décor, the resturant seems just a bit too modern for a traditional Greek taverna. Hopefully this will change over time as the restaurant develops a bit more character — it is still quite new after all. Otherwise, the food is excellent and the staff are friendly and attentive. We’ll definitely be going back. :)
