We are here last night and had a thoroughly good time. Lovely country pub with top quality food. The staff were very good. Smiling, welcoming and attentive, but not in your face. We(2 of us) had 3 courses each, 2 sides and 3 alcohol drinks for £100 which is good going around here. For starters we had the crab terrine with smoked paprika aioli(special) and the king scallops with swordfish and cream sauce. These were the best dishes of the evening. Light and sumptuous! For mains we had fillet steak and the rib eye! Both very nice, and good portions. We finished off with a sticky toffee pudding and apricot sorbet! All of this washed down with a couple of glasses of rose prosecco and a well priced glass of Chenin Blanc. We would have rated 5 stars if it weren’t for the steak being a bit overdone and the scallops being more queenie than king but this didn’t detract from a lovely meal and evening. We’ll be back!

Went for dinner, a good experience. Attentive pleasant staff, good+ grub, slightly expensive wine list. Mind the very end of the restaurant in the corner by the rear window, there is a draft from the ventilation.

This place is stunningly good. Don’t miss the foie gras starter which is out of this world. The locally supplied meats are gorgeous and the staff are adorable. It isn’t cheap but the quality of ingredients is superb so you won’t leave feeling hard done by! We’ve been back several times and it’s now one of our favourites for birthday outings.

Yum, yum, yum. Locally sourced ingredients(mostly) are used to create mouthwatering delights. Don’t count the calories or the cost — just indulge yourself. Pleasant atmosphere, friendly efficient staff, good selection of drinks Deserves all the accolades.

Went for late Sunday lunch. Great setting. Easy parking. Terrific staff — extremely smiley and nothing too much for them. Food and drinks really excellent. I started with the brocolli soup which was really good and followed with the risotto. Very tasty! Ended with peanut butter cheesecake — as good as it sounds. We sat outside and couldn’t have had a better afternoon. Friends had lamb for mains which was excellent. Highly recommended.

A great selection of ales, as well as a great selection of wine. However, the food is what really draws people to this country pub. All the classic dishes are spot on and there is a great lunch menu that is a bit more casual than the more formal dinner menu. You can choose to either sit in the pub area or the dining area. After your meal there are countless gorgeous walks you can take. The only tough part is finding this little spot, as it is fairly remote.

Friendly waiting staff serves high quality local food with a wow factor that has won the pub lots of awards. It is, as another contributer said in the middle of nowhere along long narrow windy roads. It is pricey but reasonable due to the quality.

The Bricklayers Arms is a multi-award winning pub with a great ambience located in Flaunden just outside Hemel Hempstead. A fantastic place to eat out for a special occasion, with impeccable service and outstanding food. The quality of the food and drink available is reflected in the price, but in this case you most definitely get what you pay for. A good selection of real ales and a range of choice wines are available to compliment the variety of excellent dishes on offer. Although serving top-notch food to consistently high standards there is a fantastically homely atmosphere to the place with the regulars still popping in for a pint of the local ale and a bite from the snacks menu. Well worth the journey(as it is out of the way) and MORE than worth the extra notes I would recommend everyone try a meal here at least once. You are guaranteed to have a wonderful experience.

A shining example of a great pub. The menu served up by award winning chefs has a a french/english twist but you will still thankfully find your traditional Sunday roast on there too. Great walks around this area as the pub is nestled on the edge of The Chilterns(an vast protected area of outstanding natural beauty no less!) ideal to walk off all that super delicious food methinks. Featured in the Michelin Guide as an award-winning ‘foodie pub’, and just recently named ‘Dining Pub of the Year’ in the latest edition of The Good Pub Guide 2009′… ooh la la. not that I’m any sort of Simon Cowell of the food world, but I have to agree with them — this place is good.

I’ve been here several times before and went here again for Sunday roast and can’t recommend this place highly enough. It appears to regularly win best pub and gastro awards and has never let me down yet, whatever I have ordered from the menu. The pub is a really old fashioned and pretty village pub. It is in the middle of nowhere, lying between Watford and Hemel Hempstead but it is always well worth the drive. The menu consists of a varied and unusual array of starters and then a selection of good, old fashioned roasts for the mains. The main courses all seem to have been sourced from local farms and taste delicious. On this occasion I had the beef, which came with yorkshire puds, potatoes, veg and gravy. It’s always worth ringing a day or two before you want to go because it’s always packed on a Sunday afternoon. To give you an idea of prices four of us had three courses each with soft drinks for about £130. A great place to go when the parents/in laws are in town or when you want to get away from the same old central London restaurants but still want great food and to relax.
