Friars Vaults

Have drunk here numerous times, always seems a good atmosphere. On Thursdays they do karaōke which is a good laugh, especially at the shrieking X Factor wannabes.
They do good food in there to which is another plus.
Word of warning, watch out for the step when going in the blokes loo. A couple times when I’ve been half cut I’ve nearly gone arse over tit.

Arguably better known to be a popular drinking place of an evening before moving off into the night, located on Castle Square in the center of town. I do enjoy drinking here myself, if I’m honest. Decent sized beer garden. Staff are usually friendly and helpful which is always nice. Toilets also usually clean and easily accessed. Usually get ID’ed on my way in, but to be honest I would rather that than door-​people who don’t give a sh*t and let in kids left right and center (and being 26 this year, being ID’ed makes me feel a heap better about myself! :3).
One surprising thing however…
The food here is absolutely lovely! Me and my partner have never really thought to eat here before (no particular reason — I’m guessing because I’ve always regarded it as a drinking place than an eating place as that’s all I’ve ever done here), but one day we decided to give it a try, and I was very surprised. I can only comment on the food we had at the time, but my partner had some sort of burger with cheese and BBQ sauce, and I went for the vegetarian lasagne. I won’t pretend to know what I am talking about when it comes to food, but my boyfrend thoroughly enjoyed his burger, I know that much: p When I order veggie lasagne, I often recieve something which looks like it used to be a ready meal, before being over nuked and thrown onto a plate — not this. It came well presented in a china bowl-​thing, with all kinds of vegetables in it (cauliflower and carror iirc were in there) which were different and worked so so well, and the whole thing was covered in cheese — always a winner.
Will definately be going back at some point for more (if I’m not there drinking first!) :3
