Harrow-on-the-Hill Station

Main metropolitan line interchange, the line splits into the Uxbridge and the Amersham/​Chesham/​Watford branches. Also a stop for Chiltern Trains to London Marylebone.
One of the locals told me that the actual Harrow-​on-​the-​hill station was to be around South Harrow but when the underground station was to be built the Harrow School were consulted and they recommended this site!
The station is old and boasts the old style displays etc. there are no lifts and hence not very easy for people with special needs. Lifts are potentially in the pipeline but there is a concern that the development might ruin the character of the station.
Many people use this station to change into a fast South-​bound service during morning rush hour. Platforms tend to get quite crowded. The station is physically connected to the Harrow bus station and there is a Taxi stand outside. There are no longer any shops within the station /​platforms.
Harrow-​on-​the-​hill is one of very few stations which had Toilets — bit unfortunate that it is now closed due to health and safety reasons!
The is a barbershop inside the station and it is quite popular with folks who may decide to get an impromptu haircut in the way back from work.
I am using the station for last three years and while it might be bit grubby but it has now become an integral part of my working day experience.

A grubby station with some small shops and taxis nearby-​useful to take the fast train to London.

Harrow-​on-​the-​Hill station opened in 1880 and you can tell because mannnnn is it Vintage!
Harrow-​on-​the –Hill Station was my station when I lived in Harrow, it serves both the Metropolitan line and Chiltern railway.
On entrance to the station, you will see Newsagents plus the usual ticket machines.
The walls are of a beige looking color. You have the tickets gates, with the TFL workers in their booths on the right.
The platforms are long, each having bench seating. It would of been nice if it had a waiting room, just in-​cased it rained or snowed, but you just have to deal with the platform roof instead. Being that the station is old, their is no digital sign board to tell you what time the next train is coming, the destination just appears and you just wait.
If the train delayed you will hear the workers announce it through the speakers, or you go upstairs to ask.
If you coming out of the station, their is a fruit and veg stall, and a bakery shop outside. Also you have a few designated cycle stands to park your bike.
To your left you have Harrow bus station, and also a shopping center across the road.

I can’t count the number of times I’ve been waiting on the platform for an Uxbridge train. It’s almost like pot luck, sometimes it comes along shortly after. Sometimes it seems like an eternity passes before one miraculously shows up!
You gotta love the old school signs where the destination lights up almost last minute. There are no times here. It has stood still…
