A strange but interesting place to be found in Heathrow. Sort of like a small grocery store with everything ranging from quick sandwiches and frozen meals, to full on grocery items like raw veggies and milk. You can also find lots of cookies, cakes, drinks, and chips here. Prices are decent — I didn’t try any of the ready to go meals but it was pretty packed on a Tuesday evening so I’d like to assume that the food is yummy!

Heathrow has expanded since when I last visited it and what a joy to find a M&S Simply Food in this Terminal. We landed and we switched over to Terminal 5 to catch the bus to our hotel. LO and Behold, I saw a line of flight crew, passengers, airport personnel all streaming out of this store. This is apparently the go to place for fresh produce, freshly made sandwiches, meats… whatever goes down the throat and feeds the belly. The store was jam packed with food, from cheese and pickle sandwiches to small bags of Percy Pig marshmallows, from beer to M&S mini rolls… it was like having a grocery store that stocked fresh(and I keep emphasizing fresh) food right in an airport with a gazillion varieties to choose from. I had a field day stocking my shopping basket with provisions for an overnight stay at our hotel. A smaller version of the M&S Food Court, the Simply Food still has an amazing selection of cooked meats and pasties, breads, croissants and brioche, snacks like chips and nuts and candies and cookies, sandwiches that are marked down when they are at their due date, as are the fresh salads. Even in this compact, variety grocery store, bargains can be had. I was just thrilled to see fresh fruit(hard to get an airport) and large bottles of water that weren’t being sold at ripoff airport prices. I No wonder so many airport personnel shopped here. It was more exciting than many a gourmet food store I had visited. And everything so reasonably priced. Now, one can really live at an airport if one’s flight is delayed.
