I am truly a sucker for a wetherspoons establishment. I mean, where else can you go for a really great selection of drinks, get full up on said drinks and leave feeling like you haven’t burned through your life savings? A wetherspoons pub, that’s where! This pub, like many of the other wetherspoons was in a grand building with high ceilings and loads of seating. The toilets are big and bright and always clean. We were able to order some drinks and find a great table with a decent view of Greenock. My guy and I only stayed for a few as we were on our way to a concert at the Beacon, but we had high hopes of making it back after the concert for some snacks after checking out the substantial food menu. Unfortunately, we didn’t get back from the concert before 11pm(when they stop selling food), but we did stop back in for more drinks and crisps on our way back to the hotel. The perfect night cap to an amazing night.

Being from the US and in Greenock for a very short time we were very impressed with the friendliness of the town. We were directed here for some ‘pub grub’ and were not disappointed. All four of us had the fish and chips with mushy peas, and beer. Yum!

Yes, nice pub to visit with the usual great Wetherspoon menu — lots of choice for everyone, including vegetarians. Great beers/ales on offer and friendly, pleasant staff(as seems to be the case in all the Wetherspoon establishments!) It’s really big inside and there are plenty of places to sit, including ‘alcove’ seats where you can talk more privately. Apparently it’s been open since 1998 but I remember when it was the central Greenock post office, many years before that!

The James Watt is a Wetherspoons pub in Greenock. Now, don’t cringe! I wouldn’t venture into most Wetherspoons bars because they seem so lifeless and dull. But this wee bar is actually okay. Fair enough there’s no music but the old post office building has a certain charm about it. The drink is cheap as is with every Wetherspoons bar. But in a town full of little boozers, this place is the next best thing, and a decent place to sit with your pals without all the quiet whispers from the regulars being about you. At the end of the day it’s nothing special, but when ‘special’ places are so far away from this area, its a good shout for a place to meet your pals.

I have been in this pub a numerous of times, and it is brilliant, and it is right in the heart of Greenock. As most people I know usually says, lets meet up at the James Watt Pub, for dinner, and we stay in there, until 1am or even till the closing time, and it is quite roomier, and cosy place to stay in. There is family friendly place only up to 8pm. and there is a smoking garden in the back area, in the pub garden. It is a must go place. Very popular with all group of people, as it is quite nearby to the nightclub, and fast food stores.
