The perfect spot to rest your weary legs after a long walk in the wet wilds of the lakes. They have tasty food galore, a roaring fire, cheery bar staff(who don’t flee at the sight of a group of 30 walkers marching towards the bar) and so many beers on tap I lost count. You can even sample the beers in a trio of third pints on a paddle. Marvellous! I have yet to try their substantial beer garden, as I have only(perhaps slightly madly) only visited Grasmere during the winter months. But I am sure it is as bustling and charming as the rest. On this occasion I was lucky enough to be there on a Sunday to try their roasts. What a treat! Juicy pink beef, fluffy yorkshire and lashings of gravy. Every morsel was scrumptious and cooked to perfection. If only it wasn’t a 7 hour drive from my home in Bristol!

Tweedies is one of my favourite pubs anywhere. Despite it being part of a hotel it feels like a wonderfully intimate pub, with a fantastic selection of beers and some great live music on occasions. Inside it is all muted pine and beer pump labels which emphasises the fact this is a high temple of beer. There is an attached restaurant where you can still drink if not busy. The food is good. We had fresh whitebait and an enormous steak and ale pie. You can also eat the same menu in the hotel restaurant which is less busy. They also do“bats” of three sample ales. If in Grasmere it is an almost compulsory stop.

There can be nothing more satisfying returning to a bar the night after a great night and spying that they have 2 or 3 more guest ales for me to try, that weren’t there the night before along with the old favourites from the previous even. This pub is what beer tasting paddles are made for! I have never had a bad night in this pub and most weekends you seem to get an assortment of live music. I have yet to try the expansive beer garden as I only ever visit in the seemingly wet winter months. Tweedies is always warm and inviting and a great place to dry off.

After years of going to Tweedies I’m not ever disappointed. its got everything. Want to warm up in winter have a pint from the incredible selection of real ale or 31⁄3 pints served in a plank if you can’t decide! Why not sit out in the sunshine in the lovely well kept grounds with a glass of cold crisp and well choosen wine. Not drinking have a coffee or hot chocolate. delicious! Take your dog, logon the wifi, catch a band or one of their great beer festivals.. Either way rock up in walking gear expect great service and an incredible bar. I have eaten here but not for a while. when I did it was fantastic and in a large group which they coped with no problem. If you are in Grasmere don’t bother with a tea shop… go here!

Great interior, top notch selection of beers & dog friendly! What more could you want? Walking from Ambleside to Grassmere requires planning, determination and luck. Ok maybe not but you will need waterproofs, a vague sense of direction and beer. The latter was provided by our first stop off at this great little place. There was a good amount of outside seating to take in the last of the sunshine then a roaring fire for when we got chilly and moved inside. They do food but only until 3 so get there in time if you are hungry(we missed it by 10 minutes). I had a pint of fruli aka nectar of the gods, there was also a great selection of hand pulls and other bottles. Lots of cute dogs for us to pet and dream of owning. They have a dining section that’s separate and appeared to take bookings as several table said reserved on them.

Great beer selection and wonderful beer garden. Service very slow on a Monday afternoon during high season, but otherwise a great pub.

We popped into Tweedies Bar — the name in a much fancier font that one would expect, though still provoking various Chicken Run impressions within the group — after a day wandering around Grasmere and Ambelside. Basking in what was left of that days sun, we sat outside, so I can’t give any opinion on the interior, aside from the very flash and impressive chandelier I spied. There is ample seating outside and everyone was there; the couple walking the dogs, the family enjoying a hike, the older group enjoying a glass of prosecco. I’m not sure you could get more stereotypical ‘The Lakes’ than in a pub like this. I enjoyed half a pint(those roads are windy!) of Firey Fox cider, a local draught, and it went down a treat, warming me up when the sun started to hide. I’d confidently assume that Tweedies is heaving during the summer months so be warned if you’re planning on just popping in.

Although this seemed to be just a pub, there was an extensive food menu. No one was eating while we were there, just enjoying a very«mountain cabin» type of atmosphere. All wood, fireplace going, and dog friendly. Large communcal tables and at 5:00PM everyone was headed to the same direction and that was a pint to finish up the afternoon before dinner. The pub seemed like it could be at a ski area somewhere up in the mountains of Canada or Switzerland. Everyone was cheerful and the ceiling beams were lined with hundreds of beer markers from maybe every local brewery in the UK. I had a «bat» which is similar to the US «flight» but with only 3 one-third pints. What a great way to try several to find you favorite. I liked the Coniston Oatmeal Stout. I highly recommend this place for just 30 minutes if you have time. Just fantastic and perfect for ending the afternoon.
