Well. Went here with a couple of friends, one who chose the fish pie special, which at £5 is a stunning bargain you would have thought. But in fact, when you get the fish pie, the only recognisable fish is two tiny, scrawny lumps of salmon, a couple of mussels, the rest about 80% being made up by what looks like slices of circular white flesh with an orange exterior colouring. Now, i’m pretty sure it wasn’t fish, and am pretty sure it wasn’t scallop, so the question remains what was it? Crab sticks? I am happy to be corrected, and change my review, but this place is starting to look like some faux hipster scam. My meal was just ok, but the vegetable sides were overcooked, and the steak cut chips my other colleague had looked exactly like ordinary canteen chips. I’m happy to change my review on correction, but it doesn’t look good, even at £5.

I called into The Amethyst tonight after work for a Pre-Christmas drinks with Colleagues. I was impressed with their selection of Craft Beers, I had a Joker IPA, a Schiehallion and an Innes & Gunn all presented in appropriate Glasses and well casked. One of my Friends had Beers like me and my other Friend had a few Gin & Tonics again well served with Ice & Fruit and Schweppes Diet Tonic. I did not read the Menu but saw a few dishes coming out of the Kitchen that looked very nice. My Friends and I decided that we would make a visit here a regular occurance and next time we would have food. The Bar Staff were very pleasant and welcoming, the refit has been done very tastefully I look forward to returning.

This is a great addition to Govan, a superbly welcoming new pub which reflects the history and community of the area in every detail. We visited on its opening night(I had been following their rather intriguing Facebook page for info, where gradual peeks of the menu and décor were revealed in the run up to opening on 2 November). The staff were really smiley and welcoming, and gave us time to ponder the rather extensive menu(it is 27 pages… although the first section is all about the pub and the history of the HMS Amethyst, and has beautiful archive images of Elder Park, Govan Fair and the shipyard as well). We ordered the vegetarian fish and chips(which are actually halloumi in batter) and an all day vegetarian breakfast. There were no potato scones on a little opening day oversight, but breakfast came with huge portions of well cooked beef tomato and massive portobello mushrooms, with tasty beans and fried eggs with two cheese based vegetarian sausages. Fab, and will definitely be on our ‘lazy brunch’ list for another day. The halloumi was enormous, thick and yet delicate, with melt in the mouth batter. Chips were functional rather than hand cut. shame, but in my opinion not worth dropping a star for. For drinks we had a Harvieston Schiehallion real ale(note– this is the only pub in Govan which serves real ale) from the selection of three handpumps, and a San Pelligrino limon. had no room for the ‘jeelly piece monsieur’ desert. but will be back!
