Stayed at the Torrance for one night on a business trip and would happily stay again. The hotel was quite affordable and was a step up from a premier inn or other big chain hotel. The room was great and all the fittings made you feel at home almost immediately. One thing that did bug me was that there was no plug next to the bed but it’s not a deal breaker. Had dinner and drinks in the hotel as well and the menu was extensive. I went for the seafood risotto and cleared the plate. For a hotel as well the cost of dinner and drinks was reasonable as well. Unfortunately there is no residents bar times due to the area the hotel is located.

I totally agree with by buddy Martin R’s points. The food was good, portion sizes decent and it was good to see they had some«craft beer» available, however the prices were a bit ridiculous. £5.60 for a 500ml bottle of Joker IPA which can be had for around ¼ that price from your local supermarket. Maybe this is how wine drinkers feel when they are asked to pay well over the odds for wine?! It is quite a nice venue and pretty classy inside, however I wouldn’t come back unless it was a special occasion for someone I didn’t want to miss!

I really like the new Torrance. Very up market and modern. East Kilbride really needs a bar/restaurant/disco venue. Great music and gorgeous conservatory for quieter folk!

I visited the Torrance for Christmas lunch with workmates in December 2014, so this review isn’t typical of a normal visit, in menu, or that I did not stay as a hotel guest. But that’s not to say the experience isn’t useful! I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and the service at the Torrance. My experience of East Kilbride venues has been somewhat disappointing over the years so I didn’t expect much, so was super-pleased when my low expectations were smashed! On arrival we gathered in the hotel bar. It’s well appointed, and had ample serving staff. There are tables of mixed size and the actual bar is large. There are wall-mounted TVs showing sport. At £5.60 for a bottle of Williams Joker IPA, and over £5 for a large orange juice and lemonade, the bar prices are ridiculously high for an East Kilbride bar… this isn’t Gleneagles guys!(minus one star) We then moved to a function room for lunch. My brie in filo with cranberry was generous, perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. A really well executed starter. Turkey main was average, with the meat being from a turkey roll thing rather than a freshly roasted bird, potatoes overdone, one tiny pig-in-blanket and mixed veg. Dessert was warm sticky-toffee pudding with ice cream. Big generous portion of a cube of sponge surrounded by a sea of warm toffee sauce(on a warmed plate too, yay!). Delicious. Other main dishes on the Christmas menu were Cod(very good I’m told) and the vegetarian option was mushroom stroganoff. Service throughout was fast, friendly and professional, the staff are a real credit to the Torrance. So in summary, the food and service was pretty good, but the eye-watering bar prices would discourage me from visiting again in a hurry.

Stopped in for a bar lunch on a Saturday. Parked in the car park and discovered that unless I wanted to walk from the car park, along the street, I couldn’t access the bar without walking through the main restaurant! Had a look at the bar menu. Not the cheapest I’ve seen, but not the most expensive either. Thankfully, my vegitarian son wasn’t with us or we would have been leaving straight away. The only vegitarian items were soup of the day(sweet potato and butternut squash) and a cheese & tomato, triple decker sandwich! I had a triple decker prawn Marie rose sandwich which came beautifully presented on a long wooden board. It was accompanied by nachos and a small helping of coleslaw. Now, at £4.50, I had fairly high expectations. At the end of the day I had a piece and some plain doritos. I could have got a meal deal from the supermarket and sat in the car where I would have been warmer! My husband had £8.95 fish and chips which were lovely. They go to great lengths with presentation. Incidentally, they do meal deals Monday to Friday. I’m not sure why food is more expensive at the weekend. We drank draught cola and a small bottle of irn bru. The cola was served in a half pint of ice!!! And it cost £1.70. The Irn-Bru was £2.25! I could have had more than two litres for that kind of money. It wasn’t unpleasant but it was way over priced for what it was, it wasn’t a warm room to sit in and as for the giant telly showing Motherwell vs Celtic, I could have done without it! We won’t be rushing back.
