Breakfast at the Plum Tree: perfect atmosphere and service; my only comment would be that I prefer my baked eggs slightly firmer, but the cocotte eggs were served with delicious smokey ham and cheese.

Wonderful smoothies, coffees and sharing platters as well as fantastic specials, all served by friendly staff. The best café in the area, which is lucky for me as it’s just around the corner from my work!

I booked to go here on Christmas eve for the fondue deal which I thought was excellent value £30 for a bottle of wine and cheese fondue for 2. We booked at the latest time we could for dinner which was 5pm as it closes at 6pm. Unfortunately we were the only people in the deli bar one other couple. This could be because the weather was horrible and it was xmas eve so town wasn’t very busy, but the atmosphere was not great. We felt like we were keeping the owners from closing up for the holidays! The staff were very nice and didn’t rush us but it was a bit quiet. I like a wee bit of noise! It was also very windy outside and the door kept on being blown open which was not great as it is quite a small place. We got a bottle of house white which was fine and then our fondue came. It was presented lovely. in a traditional pot which the wee sticks. There was a selection of breads, chorizo, salami, olives, veg. It was all very nice dipped in the cheese and there was huge chunks of meat. However I am not a fan of salami so I was wishing there was some more fresh bread or something else to make it shine! It was a good experience but I think the only time I will try fondue again is if I ever go to Switzerland and get the proper stuff.

I’ve been coming to the Plum Tree for a couple of years, back when it was called Berits & Brown and in all that time I’ve only ever purchased one type of sandwich, so consider this more a review of the sandwich than of the place in general. The Plum Tree do hands down the best of Glasgow’s purported Reuben sandwiches: lots of thinly sliced salt beef stacked between slices of toasted brown bread(I’m told white is also an option) garnished with saurkraut, swiss cheese and something I doubt is an authentic Russian dressing but which is much closer than anything else round these parts. I should add that I’ve actually also tried some soup and a coffee in here, neither of which set me alight but were wholly passable though not good enough to encourage me to try them again when there’s better in the neighbourhood. That sandwich, though. NB This is an updated version of my original Berits and Brown sandwich review.

Ever since the Unilocal Elite event at the Plum Tree, I’ve been excited to go back and treat myself to fondue for 2. At just £30, you are treated to a host of delightful savoury dipping things, gooey tasty melted cheese and a lovely bottle of wine to share. I treated my boyfriend to a post-graduation ball scran and we went to town on the cheesy fondue goodness. It was tasty and the cheese was perfect. — With lots of of it! I absolutely love the homegrown deli vibe and the vinyl rotation they’ve got going on is very quirky. — You just need to look at the sign to see what’s playing! I’m sure they would play a record for you if you brought one in. But there’s quite a selection to choose from! The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and friendly and, in the heart of the Merchant City, it really has got a beautiful location. I just know I’d love to pop in for tea and cake during the Merchant City Festival this year. It’s just lovely, and, of course, I’ll be back!
