Fairly pleasant pub right on the station concourse near to the exit to Union Street. There’s comfortable seating(although a bit ‘tired’ perhaps) and it’s nice to sit in the window to watch people rushing for their trains. From there you can also see the live train information boards, which is useful. Lots of real ale on offer, from John Smiths and Theakstons to Guinness and the Spanish house wine is very pleasant. There’s food as well, from cooked breakfasts(including vegetarian) from prices £2.50-£7.99; lite bites, ciabattas and soups; main meals from £6.95 for the macaroni cheese to steak and chips for £9.95. There are special offers too including two meals for £7.99 if you choose from sausage and mash, chilli, chicken salad, vegetable lasagne or BLT ciabatta or you could have a burger and a pint for £9.50. Some meals have an ‘E’ logo on the menu which means that your meal will be served within 13 minutes or your money back!

English«ale»(john smith) on tap. Expensive. Really fecking terrible music. Still, a drink when you’re an hour early for the Glasgow-Euston train. Just watch out for train robberies.

I think this place has changed names since these last reviews but I couldn’t remember what to so I’ll review this one :) We headed here after our horrible stay at the jury’s inn and had just missed the breakfast so we both ended up choosing burgers as everything else was quite large main meals. The interior is a little grubby and the seats have quite a lot of cigarette burns and the like but we just wanted something quick to eat before getting the train home. Our order came quick and the burgers turned out way better than expected so I would certainly come back for a quick bite to eat. The only thing that put me off was the strange European looking man at the bar who stared at us constantly. He even left for about 10mins and we thought«thank god he’s gone» only to have him come straight back and stand and stare at us again. So we left rather quick after that.

I’m not quite sure if I can agree with my fellow Unilocaler’s assertion there are«plenty» of nice alternatives to the Arrol outside the station. Yes, there are some, but by god there are some truly horrific options as well. For that reason alone, the Arrol deserves three stars. OK, so you’d never choose it for a night out with your mates, but as station bars go, this one is safe and friendly enough making it a wholly acceptable option for a pint should you miss your train.

The Station Bar(or the Arrol, as it is now called) is one of my favourites. But I’ve only really come in here half-cut. Every type of punter imaginable comes in here, from the dour old man to the screeching gaggle of glamorous«eighteen year-olds» drunk on the unfamiliar vodka and on the attention. The prices are pretty cheap, and they boast of a £2.99 cooked breakfast, which I haven’t tried, and I don’t think I want to. This is a good bar for having a swift one before the last train home, or for a warm-up drink to discuss the evening’s tactics. This is also one of the few bars where I haven’t been i. d’d at 20 paces(whick is probably a bad thing). I may be 22(legal age: 18) but apparently I have the looks of a 4-year old. It’s a fairly big place with the front area where the regulars seem to sit, and an area past the bar where weary shoppers sit amongst teen hilarity. It’s a bit scruffy too, so I’d really only pay a visit when your vision is already a bit blurred.

shouldn’t be under the«nightlife» category but that’s what i had to choose in order to class it as a «bar.» if you’ve got some time to spare before hopping a train or after arrival in glasgow’s central station, why not drop in for a nice pint? i’ll tell you why not– there are plenty of nicer pubs right outside the station.
