OK, I know it’s weird for a guy to be reviewing a hairdresser, but let’s just acknowledge that fact and move on, shall we? I have curly hair, and it’s difficult to find someone who can cut it so that it lies properly without it looking like a haystack after the first washing. I also get sick of hairdressers who think they know better than you how it should look. I don’t want a fancy style and I have no interest in looking trendy; I just want it cut so that it’s as low maintenance as possible. Thankfully Stuart and Rena and their staff are prepared to listen to what you want and cut it how you like it. If you want advice, they have plenty to offer; if you just want it simple, they can do that too. They really know their stuff. I’ve been coming here for years, and can honestly say that I have never had a bad haircut here. Sure, there are cheaper places I could go to, but having tried a couple of other local barbers and had bad results, I’d rather pay a bit extra for a decent cut. They’re also great sources of local intel, from restaurant recommendations to new openings and even the occasional juicy bit of gossip. And the complementary coffee is always a nice touch, as is the head massage when they wash your hair. Their clientèle includes some ‘weel-kent’ local celebrity faces, so keep your eyes open as you never know who you’ll find sitting in the next chair.

If you’ve read some of my other hairdresser reviews you may have gathered that I would rather be eating and/or drinking instead of having a hair cut. Indeed, I am not overly fussed with all things girl like and am mightily glad that the boy appreciated the low maintenance. Meaning, he appreciates that as long as I have a quick shower; clean clothes and my boots on(with thermal socks under them) I’m ready and out the door with my scarf trailing. Nonetheless, I have been inside this hairdressers for sometime e.g. fifty full minutes reading their magazines while waiting on a friend. From this sole experience I can tell you the following: it’s clean, fresh, airy, stylish and friendly. It’s not too stuck up or up market to make it uncomfortable. Moreover, going from my friend’s experience, the staff are quick, helpful and listen(none of the five inches ‘just a trim’ malarkey you can get elsewhere). Additionally, they also seem to know how to give a good, decent cut which doesn’t require a lot of aftercare or styling hassle a week later. The prices are also pretty reasonable for the West End and for a ‘proper’ hairdresser(not the tenner chops I prefer in back street local salons). So, if you’ve got a few extra pennies to spend and want a decent cut which will behave itself even when it’s you styling it(not the hairdresser) then give this place a call.
