I popped in here to try a new venue as I’m addicted to Starbucks. I had never been here. Even though it’s round the corner from Driftwood. Rare I’m up this way. Just want to give thumbs up:)

Despite Starbucks being pretty low down on my list of good coffee emporiums, the options around Charing X are a bit limited on a Sunday afternoon, so I found myself in here for a take-away and was pleasantly surprised by both the friendliness of the staff and the general cool ambience of this place. Big windows make the place feel really airy and spacious, and there are plenty of comfy sofas to lounge around in. The number of laptops visible hinted at free Wi-Fi, although I didn’t have time to hang around to sample that. Instead I allowed myself to be talked into paying 20p extra for some Guatemalan special blend in a cheeky wee espresso doppio, something I have learned to order in Starbucks in order to get something approaching a decent strength of coffee. They had a notice board with pictures of all the staff, which I thought was a nice touch and clearly demonstrates a positive attitude towards them. There were three folk on duty too, which was pretty good for a Sunday afternoon, so my drink soon arrived and I was on my way. The coffee was OK but unremarkable, and I wondered if it would have been any different without the extra 20p shot. Starbucks is still one of my least favourite coffee places, but that’s the second one I’ve visited in less than a month so I must be mellowing in my old age or something.

An ideal coffee shop if you are walking into town from he west end or charring cross area, the first thing that hits me is that aroma of the coffee beans where in some coffee shops you dont smell anything. The tables are always clean and the toilets immaculate, staff are always friendly and chatty. The sitting are is comfy and there is always space for a seat. I always seem to like their cheesy music especially christmas time.

As Starbucks go, this is probably my favourite one in the city centre. Free wifi, great staff, spacious and plenty of seating. I once came in here after I failed my driving theory exam and the barista that was on gave me a drink on the house and said«You look like you need this…». Obviously didn’t look particularly joyous. Despite a lot of people thinking Starbucks is the root of all evil on this planet, I actually don’t hate them(most of them), and this one is a great one to spend a few hours in doing work/watching the world go by.

For palatable coffee and guilt free wifi Starbucks is very much the ronseal of it’s world. This location has been kicking around for quite a bit now and benefits from not being in to much of a central location, meaning that you can at times actually get a seat and not feel like the person next to you is actually sitting in your lap. Staff wise I’ve never had a bad experience in here. Given that it never really hits the heady heights of the city centre locations, it maybe means that the don’t get slammed to the same extent. Whatever it is, I think it makes them a little more chilled out… which suits me to a tee. Yes it’s Starbucks. Yes it’s Starbucks and yes it’s Starbucks… but it does a job.

Normally I wouldn’t Unilocal a Starbucks… because you know about what you’ll get each time. But this experience was out of the norm. I have to agree with other reviewers in that it was extremely clean, the staff was very polite and genuine, the music was mellow and not blaring, plenty of seating available, and it just felt spacious. An even nicer surprise was my coffee which I thought was quite good, a step above the normal Sbucks average.

Everyone knows Starbucks, yes? When I went in here, I went in just for a coffee and a sit down and then I started thinking about what makes this Starbucks stand out from the rest? First, cleanliness(you can tell that the staff really take pride in their business), and size. Starbucks are a dime-a-dozen nowadays. Youo can’t walk 2 feet, turn around and spit without hitting one. That’s all find and good if you’re just wanting a quick take away coffee, where you shuffle through the queue like the lunch line at school. However, if you’re wanting to sit down and enjoy your treat, maybe read the paer or a book, then, in that case, I find most Starbucks to be rather uninviting. There’s a real feel of turnover in those smaller Starbucks, where basically you feel, the instant that you sit down that they immediately want you out in order to make way for the next customer. It’s usually the uncomfortable chairs at the ‘bar’ in front of a huge window overlooking the street, where you don’t feel like you’re looking out as much as others are looking in. Or some wobbly table, normally right in the center of the room, or crammed into a table so close to the one next to it that you keep bumping the stranger at your elbow. That’s if you can get a seat at all. Now, this Starbucks is different in all these ways. It’s spacious, so you don’t constantly feel like you’re climbing over other people, plus you don’t feel like once you sit down, you can’t get up to get another napkin or another sugar for fear of disrupting everyone around you again. No no… relax. This place is made for leisure. Take your time, make yourself comfortable. There is a large plush area with armchairs and sofas where you can relax and enjoy your coffee. And there is no reason, none at all, that you should feel like you have to leave right away. This is not one of those cold Starbucks, mass-produced coffee conveyor belts. It’s the Starbucks that all the other Starbucks should try to be.

While it is indeed«Just a Starbucks», the previous review has got it right by poiinting it out it’s that little bit more spacious, comfortable and simply nice to sit than their average effort. As anyone who has ever been in the cluttered, noisy and chaotic Starbucks on Buchanan Street will know, at it’s worst, the chain can be an unwelcoming, soulless and downright unpleasant experience, but for some reason this branch is the complete opposite. Relaxed, comfortable, slow-paced, and a surprisingly serene joint in which to while away a few hours, this effort at the corner of Sauchihall Street could well be on to win the dubious award of «best Starbucks in town.»

One of the easier Starbucks to find a seat in. The staff are really friendly and is always quick to get served in here.
