As City Centre sandwich shops go this place is decent. However, it gets an extra star for the equitable aspects of it’s business model. I won’t go into that here, but if you are socially aware you”l like the cut of their jib. I had the vegan falafel wrap with crisps and a soda fountain drink for £4.50. The vegan falafel wrap was nice, and differed from the non vegan one on the basis of having no mayo, All in pretty tasty.

Social bite is an establishment that I am more than happy to support to the high heavens. Firstly, on Christmas eve the guys and gals were opened serving food for free to the homeless and needy. The owner is clearly an amazing guy supporting numerous homeless out reach programs from what I’ve heard. The food is good, be it your morning roll(where you can attempt to roll doubles and if you do, you get your breakfast for free) or your healthier home cooking option for lunch. The menu is designed by a Michelin stared chief so I’d say go in and get your baked potato jazzed up so you can be fed well and support a great business with an outstanding cause.

Social Bite’s brand new 2nd store in Glasgow is probably my go-to lunch spot at the moment. Its really close to the ‘business district’ and Central Station, which makes it nice and easy to get to and its already looking a lot busier than their first store. Which is great, because not only do they serve up delicious freshly made sandwiches, salads and wonderful home made soups, but they have a fantastic ethical policy. Basically helping homeless people get back into work by training them up to join their team. That and 100% of their profit goes to good causes! I tend to go for the amazing meal deal which includes any sandwich /wrap /baguette, soup and a piece of fruit for a mere £5. There really isn’t much better value in the city centre and I’m glad the deal does not include a drink as I am always happy with water anyway. Social Bite is a real stand out in the Glasgow lunch scene. Firstly, the food, its really tasty, especially the soups which are always fantastic but the fact that they help so many disadvantaged people is a truly unique selling point. As they put it, this is not a PR stunt or a token gesture, but the real deal and a totally different way to run a business. Refreshing! Give it a go folks!!!
