This place has sort of saved my life on a few occasions now. Reliably awesome grub, for those delicate mornings. The menu caters for all, with substantial veggie options, and there’s a humble little seating section inside for the sit-down breakfast. Mostly, they have rolls and bacon. Awesome rolls and bacon. The USP here over other cafes is the staff: they could not be nicer. Question after question about every conceivable detail about how I wanted my order(no butter for me, nor sauces) and a willingness to negotiate things as my friend phoned to ask for something else sort of blew me away. I just wanted a roll and bacon. Honestly, effortlessly lovely and attentive. I just didn’t see it coming. Honest and reliable.

Stumbled across this place one Sunday morning when I was out too early for my usual breakfast haunt. I got a really friendly welcome from the waitress who went to some length to ensure that I got my veggie breakfast exactly how I wanted it. It has an old fashioned café feel inside with plastic red and white spotted tablecloths. There are not many tables, although it wasn’t a problem on a cold and wet Sunday morning– the place was getting busy by the time I left though. One complaint was that the wind kept blowing the door open which made the place quite draughty– it was an exceptionally miserable morning though so I guess this is pretty unusual. The food was delicious and freshly cooked, the hot buttered toast was fantastic. I ‘upgraded’ my breakfast to include a latte, although tea or instant coffee and orange juice is included in the price. I thought it was great value– a real find!

One thing about the Anderson area is that there is no shortage of eateries. There are only 9 tables inside and one outside if you could bear the cold climate. Walls are filled with odds & ends that give the authentic café feel with lots to see & keep your mind occupied before food arrives. From the all day breakfasts, hot. & cold filled rolls, baguettes, snacks and toasties there’s a lot to choose from their menu to sit in or to take out. Daily specials available and home made soup. Welcoming & helpfully staff with quick service.

Nikki’s Café: To begin let’s remember that this is a café. When I think Café I think plastic chairs, greasy food and lackadaisical staff. This couldn’t be any further away from the service I got at Nikkis. Inside, only 7 tables make it up, with the counter area full of cakes and drinks taking up the rest — huge chalk boards with modestly priced breakfast and lunch offerings fill the wallks. The woman who served me couldn’t have been more attentive — asking if I’d like the fat on or off my bacon and taking the time to make sure it was exactly how i’d ordered — seeming happy to accommodate. When it came to paying a younger woman served me — it was her first day and asking the older woman how to process something through the till — she was also extremley friendly and accommodating, making chit chat and asking about my day. I will definitely be back for a coffee the next free morning I have.
