Ordered a delivery from here and received cold food and only part of the order. When we phoned to ask for the rest of the order we got some rude Scottish woman who seemed to think we were phoning just to make her life difficult. There are plenty takeaways in Glasgow people, don’t waste your money here.

This is the sort of place that is going through phases where the food could be good one week and not the other. They must have a new cook as the food has been reticently been good Try the Golden bell special chow mein. Large slices of beef, pork and chicken with prawns, vegetables. Not spicy like Singapore chow mein very tasty.

Scene: A late evening in a City Centre flat with dreary weather outside. Actors: Lex G. and the Lumberjack Lex and Lumberjack:(chime in simultaneously) «I’m hungry!» Lex: «I’m too tired to cook, I’ve been working hard all day» Lumberjack: «Order in?» Lex: «Let’s look online… ooh Chinese» *click click click type type type card number* 30 minutes later… buzzer rings… knock on the door… Lex and Lumberjack: «Food!» Lumberjack: «Why are there pakoras in a plastic bag from a Chinese takeaway?» Lex: «We didn’t order those… Why is my hot and sour soup so… goopy?» *splat* The sweet and lowdown: Food = questionable. Service = quick and convenient thanks to Price = eh… for what you got, you could get better for the same price elsewhere Tummy post-meal = touchy.

Sweet and sour chicken at 1 am anyone? I had a shot at this suitably ordinary Chinese one night when I was on my way back from a very formal drinks reception. I felt the need to balance the champagne out with some ‘junk’ food. Tasted alright but left me in guilt, with sickly feeling, and a feeling that I was being polluted with monosodium glutamate flavouring(which could just be in my own head). No Chinese people were working here that I could see, which is pretty unconvincing and also a little worrying when buying so-called ‘Chinese food’. I once heard that Chinese students will often eat at the best Chinese, were the food is freshest and most traditional. I have found a few of these self-voted 4 star chines es with the token students who seriously know what they are talking about. The food is tasty at these city jems. And the food is not terribly good at New Golden Bell, but things are ok, and as expected for a quick drive by Chinese takeaway. If you get the menu through the door, give this anonymous oriental food takeaway a go for a little less cost than usual.

Ok so here is the scenario. Park Bar for football, some or many beers(whichever comes first) then a quick hop across the road for some takeaway food before piling into a taxi for either more beer or the ride home to be met by a questioning female. If you can relate in some way to this scene then i would urge you to try this takeaway. Firmly established in the ‘nothing special’ category it just provides pretty standard Chinese takeaway grub but nice and not to grotty. With a pretty good menu and the usual anglo-fied options(salt and pepper chips anyone?) and all done at reasonable price’s, this is a good shout for some post pub munchies if your in the area. Oh! and if you like what you get you can always find them on Just Eat if you want to order again, they deliver quite far which is good.

I am more of a curry guy but occasional I will satisfy my lazy non cooking self with something a little more greasy, you know? Something that is just swimming in MSGs, sweet and sickly if you eat too much, yes good old fashioned Chinese delivery food. You really ought not to eat too much of this stuff, the portions from here are pretty generous, well priced and the staff are nice enough but it isn’t exactly good quality food but it does taste pretty damn good though especially their duck options.

This takeaway is very nice — the food is a good quality and the service usually pretty quick. There can sometimes be a bit of a queue in the shop but they do deliver within the west end and St Georges Cross areas of Glasgow. The portion sizes are pretty good — the only complaint is that it is a little dear. The fried rice is superb though and the pork dishes are very varied. It is near a lot of pubs and is open late at the weekends so it can be handy to stop off and grab something on your way home to soak up the alcohol!
