As an experimental cook I use Lim’s a lot. It’s great. I had decided to make Kimchi this weekend and concious that a few speciality ingredients were required there was only one place I would go. Always with a couple of tips for storing your leftover pastes and spices I always walk out with at least one thing I never intended to buy in the first place. A treasure trove of Asian goodies.

I love going to a Chinese supermarket and rarely walk out without buying anything. I’ve actually been to Lim’s a few times and really quite like this store — although it obviously can’t compete with a store the size of Seewoo. This is a two aisle shop with a lot of stuff crammed in there and they have all the stuff you’d expect to see — sauces, noodles, tinned food as well as some fresh/frozen stuff in the fridge and freezer. This time I managed not to buy anything(well, we were going to dinner at Banana Leaf so I thought it was kind of pointless) but I definitely recommend popping in for a browse. The prices are very cheap and the staff are helpful if you need to find something in particular. They also have some very cute waving cats in the window.

Awwww, i love this cute wee place. The guy that runs it is an absolute sweetheart — helps you find anything you need, gives you tips on what ingredients can be used for, and supplies a basket when your hands look too full of goodies! I seem to always find an excuse to go past there to feed my Pocky and Tae Kao Noi addiction. and the slightly baffling selection of instant ramen keeps me occupied for a while — look at the fun flavours! what exactly is a sweet potato noodle? HOWMUCHMSG? Its also cheap as absolute chips. Why go to tesco for soy sauce when you can get triple the amount here for half the price? Love it.

I love this place. I can stock up on my childhood favourite sweets such as Pocky, Chocopie & Hello Panda along with Maggi Chilli Sauce. It’s in a perfect location for me(Cambridge Street) and next door to one of my favourite Malay Chinese Restaurants Banana Leaf; best of both worlds. The staff are very friendly and the prices are very reasonable for imported produce.

Great wee shop crammed with things i don’t know or understand, not that thats much of an issue as the staff are easy going friendly sorts happy to help, even with something as simple as ‘which of the ramen tastes best?’. No pressure to buy or chat either though, plenty of times i have been welcomed then left to potter about prodding and poking the multi coloured packets and jars. prices are absolutely fine, not cheap and not expensive. Just what you would expect to pay. bang on.

Lim’s! I used to go into this glorious little place every weekend when I was in town, but because I don’t go into town as much anymore, I’ve not been in absolutely ages. Popped in yesterday because I was in Fazzi’s next door for lunch, and also because I’d run out of udon noodles! The store has such a great selection, and despite being slightly off the beaten track, is always relatively busy whenever I go in. The staff are pleasant and the prices are absolutely glorious for what quality you get! If you’re ever needing anything of the Chinese variety, and can’t be bothered heading all the way out to the Seawoo Oriental Market, Lim’s is the place to be!

I’ve been frequenting Lim’s for a long time now, pretty much as soon as I discovered there was a handy wee Chinese supermarket in town. Handy indeed for us non-drivers/car owners as most of the other Chinese supermarkets tend to be a wee bit out the way. They sell one of my absolute favourite schezwan sauces in here ~ de-blummin’-licious. Never been able to find it anywhere else so every so often along I pootle to Lim’s to get my fix and a few other bits and bobs. They sell a small selection of fresh vegetables and also fresh(and frozen) meats too but mostly in here it’s bottles/jars/packets of wee exciting looking goodies and things in jars that look bizarre and have no english on them so I haven’t a clue WHAT’S inside them…*mind boggling* If like me you get a tiny wee thrill out of checking out new/different produces from other parts of the world then you’ll love this place ~ some familiar produce and some not so. They sell strange looking Chinese/Asian sweets that mostly seem to be ginger-based, fresh sweets/cakes/pastries, about a hunner types of noodles(fresh & dried), rice of all varieties, sauces, tinned veg, octopus shiz, spices, soups, duck eggs, various(mostly green or jasmine) teas, Chinese & Japanese beers, Sake and also bowls/chopsticks and more Maneki-neko’s(wee waving cats) than you can wave your paw at. Always friendly staff and pretty good value too. Great for your home-cooked meal ingredients and also gifts too. Sorted.

The window of this little supermarket is crammed with ornaments and trinkets such as buddhas and carved jade jewellery. Most of the products in here are food, so it is a great source of real Chinese food, and I would definitely reccommend it over Tesco or wherever. Chinese beer and homewares also occupy a small corner of the shop and everything seems of high quality. The staff are all very smiley, making you feel at home in the shop. Prices are not bad, but better than expected given everything is probably imported. An interesting wee shop.
