Built on the corpse of Lola and Livvy’s, this place looks promising but can be summed up in one word: disappointing. Obviously the owners, feeling the draw of more cash from the burger/reuben bandwagon have hastily rebranded with insufficient time to properly consider their menu and train their staff. Opting for the almost universally misnamed Rueben, I ended up with a pleasant enough but overly soggy toasted cheese, pastrami and mayonnaise sandwich. No sign of the advertised sauerkraut, let alone what should be the mandatory Russian/thousand island dressing. This could all be down to a new employee who didn’t know what he was doing, and judging by the fact he was referring to a recipe sheet, I think this could be the case. Nevertheless, a business that thinks abandoning an employee to produce food they have no knowledge of is acceptable doesn’t deserve my support. It’s a pity as it’s a comfortable enough place but at 4 quid for a miserly couple of slices of pastrami and some cheese I don’t think I’ll be returning.

I get that this place is small and that it can get really busy due to lunchtime crowds but I went in for some takeaway with a couple of friends and waited 35 minutes for a grilled cheese. I don’t mind a wait, but 35 minutes is ridiculous and the grilled cheese wasn’t even that great. My friend also waited 35 minutes for a bag of chips! By the time we walked back to work, our lunch was almost over. The staff seemed to be cooking the food in no particular order either, with food tickets being placed all over the counter. The staff seemed rushed and a bit lost at times. The food was decent, if unspectacular — but I don’t think I’d visit again because of how long it took.

Just landed in Glasgow and stumbled upon this quaint spot under the train tracks. It just opened 3 days ago. Had a great small brunch which was delicious.

Walking past her on Friday night and a friend pointed it out and it looked like a great wee place to try! So when I was back in Glasgow on Saturday on my way to pick up my car i decided to pop in. This place just opened on Tuesday and wow the staff were supper friendly especially the young girl if she keeps that up I’m sure they will do very well. Sort of an eclectic little place does coffee and pastries and hot food some burgers etc. I opened for a cappuccino and croissant and they toasted it for me which I love because how wants a cold chocolate croissant? Coffee was good though it wasn’t your typical croissant but still lovely and sweet it was more cake the pastry but good nevertheless! I will be back here to sit in very soon I hope:) it’s a tiny place with maybe 8 tables at most and there is a mezzanine area! It was so cosy & warm on such a cold day miserable day. Giving his 4 stars hope to make it 5 once I’ve sampled the food

I had a classic hamburger and homemade chips to go. It was braw. Probably the 2nd best burger in the city after BMB.

I first experienced Kothel in the West End, during which I received fantastic customer service and delicious food. The new installment carries on the similar feeling of a beautifully rustic décor, using reclaimed wood and exposed brick walls. In other words, it continues to be cosy and welcoming, feeling as though you’ve stepped into a chic domain that is part art installation, part breakfast nook. Don’t let its petite size fool you; it is compact, but not cramped. Instead, there offers seating with lowered ceilings at the bottom half that allows for intimate meals one-on-one, and the top half that offers group tables, surrounded by vintage knick knacks hanging from the wall. The food certainly does not disappoint, ranging from hotdogs and burgers, to lighter, but no less delicious veggie items like stuffed peppers. I wouldn’t call the food fuss-free, it possesses a level of sophistication, but without the intimidation that may put off the fussier diner. You can see the amount of care and consideration that goes into the balance of flavours and presentation, and being able to see your meal finished off by the friendly man behind the counter adds a certain pleasing feature to the dining experience. As I mentioned earlier, the service at the West End branch was excellent, and it continues at this one; a small but formidable team of wait staff handle the place at its busiest like a well-oiled machine, but never without a smile. They speak to you the same way you would with an old friend, having felt as though you never left. All in all, an experience that is not to be missed!
