John Smith Bookshop

This bookshop is a great place to buy all your university course books from and I also got a fantastic study aid from here giving invaluable advice on how to write your dissertation. The staff are really knowledgeable as the bookshop is obviously connected with the university and the staff are asked for the same books time and time again.
They also sell a selection of stationary which is handy if you have nipped into the university to do a bit of studying but have forgotten to bring a pad or highlighters or something with you. However the prices are pretty steep and you can definitely get cheaper stationary elsewhere, but as an emergency backup it’s great.
When I had finished uni I sold all my books back to John Smith’s for a great price, much better than I would have gotten through Amazon of Ebay. So a tip for any new students, try and buy your course books as soon as you find out what they are and you might find a wee second hand bargain at John Smith’s! They only have a few second hand books at the beginning of each new semester though so that’s why you have to be really quick!

This brand new John Smith book shop has all manner of course books, stationary and other study aids.
When I was in just last week, I was tempted to buy «IT for Dummies» even though I am not the slightest bit interested in IT, it was on special offer and looked nice and shiny. It would have been one of those impulse buys that would have gathered dust on a shelf for years, thankfully I resisted the urge and went for a bargain folder instead.
The staff here all also really helpful and will be able to tell you if what you seek is in stock, and if not, when it will be.
This place is great for some inspiration, it always makes me feel guilty if I haven’t done enough study and the huge stationary selection if fabulous.
The only downside is the price, you could probably get all of the books here for cheaper on Amazon, and the stationary is a little pricey too. However, out of convenience this book shop if great.

This is the new site of the Glasgow University Book Shop. This new, shiny version of the John Smith Bookshop has replaced the former site at the John Macintyre Building then do not waist your time as all you will see is a closed door and sign. So what is this new shop like? Well there are lots and lots of expensive, course approved university text books that are much more expensive than their online equivalents. The books are fantastic and if you want to expand your horizons then this is a wonderful place to start. The books are expensive but you can have it in your hand once you have paid for it and this may be a life saver if you are at university and you need the book as soon as possible.
