I’d heard good things about their chips, so after a 2 ½ hour drive after being away for the weekend and having no food in I’d thought I’d pay them a visit. The shop is big and clean looking. I must have picked a good time to visit as there was only one person in the queue so was served quickly. I opted for a single sausage supper and it was yummy. I am a bit fussy about take away chips and rarely go anywhere as the chips are either to greasy or dry. These chips where just right. I will defo visit again when I need my chip fix.

We ordered from Jaconelli’s on a Saturday night. I ordered a half pizza supper & chips and a sausage supper with chips, with a tub of gravy. It took an hour and ten minutes to arrive and the gravy didn’t come with it! When I called back the woman on the phone said I must have it as they put some in the bag, repeatedly I told her there wasn’t any. She asked did I want the gravy as surely we would have started eating our meal by now. I said a refund would suffice and she proceeded to say how she wasn’t going to make the driver come back for £1.40. She then agreed to give me free gravy next time I was in or ordered. By this point I just wanted off the phone so agreed. The food was totally average after waiting that length of time and being really hungry, so we ate about half of it. So disappointed in the attitude of the staff. We called the Silver Inn Thursday last week and they had forgot to put in something we ordered, we called and were told it’d be no bother at all, and a driver was back with the missing food(which only cost £2.50) in 5 minutes.

I have been a regular at jackies for the past thirty years I have great memories of this place as a kid, getting taking here as a treat were I could have a roll n bacon and chips along side a ice float followed by any and I mean any ice cream I wanted from the list as a kid growing up in the early 80’s this was like winning the lottery and I have to say even now thirty years later when I’m taking my own kids it’s just like yesterday nothing has changed its still the same inside even run the same and with friendly service great food and the biggest best bowl of ice cream u can get its a little bit of heaven in Glasgow, plus a little hint Sunday morning hang over cure has to be breakfast here with a can of irn-bru and followed by the big yin works every time

A pal of mines brother used to play for Partick Thistle so we willing went to as many games as we could for a few years. But we all had to meet somewhere, right? So someone suggested Jaconellis. Jaco-who? I had never heard of the place before but as I approched it I fell in love immediately! Tinsil in the window, a picture of the Big Yin with the owner, it screamed of coolness and looked like it hadn’t changed in years. And why bother? The place is perfect. The first time I went in I got the biggest ice cream cone they did and made sure it was completely drizzled with raspberry sauce and caked with loads of chocolate sprinkles, at the time it only cost me a tad over a quid! Great! From then on it became our local spot. When we played 5s every Sunday at the Firhill Sports Complex, we would gladly all pile into Jaconellis and put back the calories that were robbed from us on the football pitch. Institution? I think so.

I absolutely adore Jaconelli’s. I have a long history with this place — it used to be where I sat in the middle of my gran and her best friend while they sat and gossiped over a cup of tea. Nowadays, it’s usually my boyfriend or mum I sit and have a natter with, but the prices have scarcely changed! With its tinsel covered front windows, old, perfectly preserved leather bound booths huddled around the 50s Formica tables, it is truly a step out of time. The staff are so friendly and chilled out, the prices are on the very cheap side of cheap, the service is speedy, tea is 60p, they have an old luminated fish tank and jukebox. And if that’s not enough for you, they sell old school Knickerbocker Glory’s. Jaconelli’s suits people of all ages, and it’s one of the dying breed of café’s in Glasgow where you go in and have a chat with the staff. It’s unpretentious and unconsciously one of the coolest diners you can find, which is why it is still so popular. With its old 10 pence mix ups, ice cream to take away and a bacon roll for under a pound, this is one of the best café’s around, and one of my favourites for personal reasons. It is absolutely packed out on match days with Firhill Stadium being around the corner, but even at that nothing seems to rattle the good natured girls behind the counter. Thank you Jaconelli’s, for keeping community spirit alive in an age where cosy, friendly places like this are unfortunately in decline. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without this place!

Here here to the previous review. Jaconellis ice cream is sure to persuade you into parting with those coins every time. Not only is the taste inglouriously indulgent, the first lick transports you back in time to being away on a family day out to some museum or tourist attraction and being handed a cone, the whippy kind that the ice cream man used to make in his van. Jaconellis is how you used to remember getting a bag of chips as a treat and happily driving home with mum and dad. Ahh the nostalgia, and I’m only 23! Thank you Jaconellis for staying real and ageing in your own way.

Graduating. Marriage. The birth of your first child. All good feelings I’m sure, but can they really compare to that first taste of a Jaconelli’s ice cream? I’m afraid not. You see Jaconelli’s is not just a café but a way of life. By some distance the shining light of Maryhill Road, the traditional establishment has kept those in the know stocked up with all that is bad for them for decades. Fish, chips, fry ups, ice cream, sweets, if it rots your teeth and/or bloats your gut, they have it. Although seemingly marooned in an area of the city well off the beaten track, Jaconelli’s following is as loyal as that of a football team’s hardcore support. Buying your fruit pastilles from RS McColl or your fry up from Wetherspoons is like neglecting your local side in favour of Barcelona or Real Madrid. Indeed, those who have grown up with its charms will have no qualms about making massive detours for one of its 99s; believe me, I’ve done it. Yet this is no greasy spoon hole in the wall. The décor of the café is en vogue. A classic 50’s art deco diner with retro leather furniture set out in booths and a great big monstrosity of a jukebox planked at the end. It’s exactly what many of the hippest establishments in the city are striving for, only this is the real thing. Nothing is contrived about this family run treat shop and that’s why it’s loyal customers love it. The last of a dying breed, and long may it continue.

The ice cream and the milkshakes are gorgeous! However the breakfasts aren’t great quality. Old fashioned interior with juke box, a must for the milkshakes
