This place was definitely not what I was expecting. It’s in a basement just on the corner of Regent Street. Inside is dark and gloomy but off set by the black and red feather boas hanging from the ceiling. At first glance I doubt you could tell the different between a risqué dancing joint and this place. It was quite quiet as it wasn’t going to be open much longer when we got there on a Wednesday lunch time. Okay the food. I got the naked Canadian burger which was… yummy…very different but definitely delicious. Burger, pork strip, bacon and maybe syrup(which made the bun sweet and sticky! Mmm) we shared some chill cheese fries which were tasty. Kinda like a fancy version of the salt and chilli chips the Chinese takeaway does. The food was served on a single silver serving tray…*face palm* I’m haunted by the ghosts of all the plates that restaurants have thrown away. That was the main downside! I’ll likely be going back to try some of their other interesting burgers soon: D

One of my favourite places in Glasgow. Have been a few times now and each time it’s great. The décor is great, I think it’s so interesting and spend most of my time looking at the paintings on the walls. I ordered the irn bru milkshake which was great! Thick and creamy and came out with some crazy straws! For food I ordered the BBQ pork and bacon burger and for a side Mac n cheese! So good! Didn’t finish everything as I was full on milk shake and food. Previously I’ve ordered the naked Canadian which is awesome! Dripping with maple syrup, so tasty! I would recommend this burger. House fries, Cajun fries and chilli cheese fries are amazing! The fries are skinny fries. Also the peanut butter milkshake is delicious! Definitely going back!

Jacker is an interesting one. Ever since seeing the proprietor feature in BBC Scotland’s documentary series«The Street,» as a fairly divisive reformed«Enfant terrible» character, we were keen to see what his latest venture had to offer. Like many Glasgow eateries, Jacker is a gourmet burger joint. First impressions of Jacker were promising: a basement room with a seating and bar area, stripped back stone walls and what can only be described as a bloodbath style mural covering the entirety of the restaurant. Having read other reviews, the décor is clearly not for everyone(particularly anyone faint of heart or squeamish about meat) and I can see why some are put off returning for this alone. Despite this, I have to say, I rather liked the quirky individuality of it all and it didn’t bother me at all. Shame about the soundtrack though, which took me right back to 5am in Ibiza circa 1997. Sorry to sound like an old fart, but we couldn’t hear ourselves think by the end of our meal as the volume kept notching up on the bass. It was all a bit wired. We had booked a table for 6pm on Saturday, having been told availability was either 6pm or 9pm. We were slightly perplexed to find the place more than half empty for the duration of the 2HOURS we were sat waiting patiently for drinks and burgers to arrive. My guess was that they were short staffed(I reckon the boss was away) given that they were turning away walk-ins and that the service was akin to the pace of a snail going backwards. What’s more, the young trendy staff seemed more interested in hanging around the bar area chatting to each other and faffing about with the sound system than actually cooking and serving the food and drinks. Frankly, it felt like a bit of a warm up party for their Saturday night out. As it happened we were happy to sit for a while given the 6pm start, but to experience an hour between our arrival and the delivery of 2 burgers, fries & Mac & cheese was beyond acceptable. Ok, so on to the food. The food itself was good. I ordered a chilli burger(2 burgers with a ladle of chilli-con-carne between the buns), Cajun fries and shared a side of Mac and cheese. The chilli was EXTREMELY spicy and was laden with freshly chopped chilli peppers complete with seeds, which I love, but if you can’t do hot — avoid this one! The brioche bun was sweet and fluffy. The Cajun fries were extremely well fired to the point of being kettle chips, but again I like that. I found the seasoning delicious but they do carry another«hot stuff» spice warning. The Mac & cheese was lovely, not too heavy, saucy and nicely grilled to seal the top. We couldn’t be bothered to wait for dessert by the time we were done with mains. Overall, this was all pretty damn tasty. On food alone Jacker would be a four star burger joint and I would happily return. Shame about the service which, whilst very cordial, was hopelessly slow. And the music, which was awful(but possibly just not my taste)!

Lots has been said about this new-ish burger joint, so I’ll admit I had high expectations. In a nice basement space on West Regent Street, the thing that will strike you is the décor. I’ll admit, I’m really not a fan of it but it isn’t enough to put me off returning. The menu is simple — burgers, fries and sides. I went for the bacon & cheese burger with a side of mac cheese and onion rings to share between two. I also ordered a passion fruit mojito but it was far too sweet which put me off ordering another drink. They’d definitely gone overboard with the sugar syrup! Food arrives on a tray which fits between the person you’re sitting opposite, so make sure it’s someone you like as you’ll essentially be eating off the same plate. A good-sized burger with a shiny bun was too appetising to resist diving right into. It was really good — lots of flavour and a delicious cheese as well. I liked that you got a portion of burger sauce so you could add more to the burger if you wanted. Downside being was that it was over-salted, and the more I ate the more noticeable it got. I tried to work out what it was that was so salty as perhaps it was the bacon but it was actually the burger patty. Now I love salty food so I was pretty surprised about that, and it was a shame as that really took it down from being a 5 star burger. The other disappointmen
