I think this deserves at least 4 stars as this is unlike any other supermarket I know of. Where else can you buy fresh banana leaf and fresh turmeric root in Glasgow? Or frozen ray fish chunks? In fact, I think 5 stars as it has a huge range of things with many different culinary influences all under one roof, mainly Indian but also Caribbean(like spices, sauces, fresh or frozen cassava and yam), Greek(some spectacular cheeses in the fridge), Middle Eastern goods(such as humous and baba ganoush as well as all the herbs and spices to create meat marinades and rubs), some Chinese(large bottles of soy sauce, fresh veg) as well as other ‘Scottish’ favourites like ready meal macaroni cheese. They even have a small sweet counter, I spotted jalebi and gulab jamin, among others. The meat counter offers a range of cuts of meat of different types and also some pre-marinated specials. For fish, the freezers have many different types, even very large whole fish(I am not sure what they were, but they were over a metre long). I’m sure the staff would be able to advise you what was what if you needed things. The freezer selections would be great if you were party planning, you can buy things such as kebabs and samosas, in small frozen packets up to 50(?) in a pack. I also saw some South Indian style really meal foods which were unfamiliar to me(but vaguely reminded me of things which I had eaten in Dhakin or Banana Leaf) as well as affordable frozen garlic, herbs and chilli. Some of their ranges are similar to what is available in other food shops(such as those on Great Western Road or Woodlands Road, and perhaps some of their items are a little more expensive) but they also have some great bargains too. Some ready meals in tins and packets are available as well as packet mixes for those who wish to try out ready made spice mixes to just stir in. They have a small ‘bulk items’ area, where large bags of rice, flour and other dried goods can be bought, as well as a household supplies area with pots and pans of all sizes as well as cleaning goods and health and beauty products. There is one aisle which is solely spices, you can get small packets through to what I would suggest are catering size– something for everyone there. There are lots of different rices and lentils, including puffed rice, brown and white basmati rice and vermicelli noodles. Bargains I found include ParleG biscuits for 20p and 12 tins of chickpeas for £1.99. I will return!
