Spent a disproportionate amount of my life staring out my mates living room window on Duke street, with a drink in my hand, staring out down on Dopey Diner. On a few occasions the day after, I would stagger across the road to get a roll and something, a roll and anything. It’s a pretty traditional wee café/diner place who cater for a quick breakfast sit-in affair or a takeaway roll and whatever in the morning time. Nothing fancy, just straightforward stuff that facilitate hangover mornings sufficiently.

The Dopey Dinner on Duke Street is everything a greasy spoon café should be. The tables are covered with plastic, red and white chequered tablecloths; the grub is good and the staff are as Glaswegian as it gets, with their broad accents and no nonsense patter, referring to you as «hen» and«sweetheart». I like to come here on the occasional weekend, as their fry ups are the very best cure for a hangover. It’s a small place, which makes for a cosy atmosphere to enjoy a mug of milky tea, a good old greasy breakfast and a read of one of their complimentary trashy tabloids — perfect for a lazy Saturday morning or to heal a hangover. With a variety of options on the menu, including ever changing specials and usuals such as pies and ‘pieces’ — this place is a classic Dennistoun diner. What I love about The Dopey Diner is that it is unassuming and unpretentious; what you see is what you get, which is a warmhearted wee diner that is loved by locals and is definitely worth a visit.
