I’d had a look at the programme online for the event and decided on a few places I was keen to visit. I’m working on a Photography project so was looking forward to getting some good shots. First stop on my route was the City Chambers, which I was sure I had read was open all weekend. Anyway, turns out its only open on Sunday, which I did think was a little disappointing given it was part of the programme. Next stop was the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow, which is housed in a lovely building in St Vincent Street. The man and lady at the door were very welcoming, explaining about the various rooms to visit, gave me a map and directed me to the free teas and coffee. Its a pretty impressive place, and I particularly liked the library areas. As I left another man inquired where I was visiting next(I think he was one of the Surgeons — he had that look about him), anyway it was a nice touch that the staff seemed genuinely proud and happy to have visitors to the place. Next stop was the Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow. I noticed the signs and some people coming out, but when I tried the door it seemed to be shut. A couple approached at the same time and it turned out it didn’t open till 1pm. Feeling a bit deflated and wishing I’d planned it all a bit better, I headed to Glasgow’s Trades Hall where again I was greeted with super friendly staff directing me to the various rooms/halls. Sadly my photography plans didn’t quite come off with it being so busy in the rooms, but it was still an impressive set up. I decided to call it a day as I had noted that a lot of events had to be pre– booked. I did feel a bit foolish that I hadn’t researched it better beforehand, but some of the opening hours did seem quite restricted. There’s some fantastic buildings in Glasgow, and I think this sort of event is fantastic to let the public see inside, but my advice would be to plan ahead and check the times!
