A wee shifty in Cosgrove, the Wife in Paper Plane, so… So… I sneaked into Deli 1901 for an impromptu get together with a cup of the black stuff and ‘une rencontre illicite’ with a scrumptiously sweet pastry. This is by far the best place on Skirving Street to caress a cuppa while surveying The Street goings on. And the staff are on the right side of fantastic too, advising where the best place to sit is to avoid the mid morning glare. If you’re not in the mood for a coffee then there’s the Delicatessen delights to ponder. You’ve stumbled upon the right place if it’s smelly Mellis supplied cheese, olive oils, balsamics, home made chutneys or antipasti you’re after? And that’s not all! There’s an array of exotic jars, wines, breads, salamis, pies and fab quiches to drool over too. Phew! :’-) Before this starts to sound like an airbrushed advertisement. The deli prices are a wee bit steep and I couldn’t afford to shop in here exclusively, but the odd treat IS expected, isn’t it? And for that treat? Well, I’m eyeing up one of those freshly made Brie, Artichoke and Chutney Ciabattas! :-)

Usually can’t walk past here without going in… even just for a look. Their anchovies are the best, I know they are not to every tastes but if you do like them, go here for them. I also love their sandwiches, the Parma ham and pesto baguette is super tasty. Also cool places to get some more unusual ingredients for the adventurous cooks out there!

This place is a gem, I found it when I had to feed 20 people at work, and they really were great sandwiches! And they gave a gorgeous platter of italian chocolate biscuit things with the order, kept everyone very happy!

A very cute deli and just the sort of thing the South Side needs, really. They’ve got plenty of good import items and fresh groceries on offer as well as a nice wee café business on the side. A little pricey but not too bad, all things considered. Also looks like they do gift baskets, which I’ll have to keep in mind. I wouldn’t travel all the way over there too often, for that, though… but they probably do the best chai latte I’ve had in the UK to date – instead of cheap syrup, they actually bother to brew the tea. It’s not so sickeningly sweet and has nice flavour. Along with it, their shortbread was buttery goodness. Definitely worth the mile plus walk to Shawlands from time to time.

I think are being a touch premature when they claim the South Side is now more«West End» than the West End itself. While it’s true that the area now has a varied selection of quality shops, cafes, delis and bars, it’s still nowhere near G12 for what can only be described as «West End-ness» without sounding like a pretentious twat. Deli 1910 however, wouldn’t just hold it’s own on Byres Road against Peckhams and Heart Buchanan, I think it could possibly lay a claim to being the best around. It’s surprisingly big, with a huge selection of the usual suspects as well as a few quirkier choices. I can highly recommend the raspberry-infused teddybear biscuits and the world’s hottest crisps. I had a burger swilling about in my innards during my visit earlier today so didn’t try the pasta and olive salad, but wish I had done as it looked utterly tremendous.

I had no idea that this little deli existed until today but boy oh boy am I glad I stumbled across it! I had just had my lunch but next time I’m in the area I will definitely pop in here for something. They have a huge selection of homemade lasagnes, pastas, pies and other dishes that you can take home to heat up later, fabulous if you can’t be bothered cooking but still want a hearty homemade meal. They have a really cute selection of childrens biscuits and sweets and being a big child myself I had to get some of them! I got a little packet of bear shaped raspberry flavoured shortbread, they came as a packet of 2 for the reasonable price of 59p. I did feel a little bad biting the guys head of — but he tasted so good! I will definitely pop back soon to stock up on said bears, I think I’m addicted! This deli is bright airy, modern, fresh, reasonably priced and the staff are really friendly! 5 stars!

While it’s probably true that you won’t be running out of smoked paprika or wasabi sauce on a weekly basis, there are enough other treats that could lure you into this deli often enough with the stock includes a variety of exclusive homemade jams, teas, biscuits, wines and unusual condiments. Interesting ingredients for those tricky recipes or to create the illusion that you could in fact tackle crazy recipes. Still if that all sounds like too much work then you are in luck, they have a deli counter with a range of cold meats, cheeses as well as a small selection of fresh bread and cakes, including good, crunchy shortbread and juicy big fruit scones. Prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly. I think I saw a girl get a hamper made up in here as well. There is also a small coffee bar in the shop and some tables outside so if your mouth starts watering while you are shopping you can have a sandwich and a coffee while you are there. A funky wee place that reminds me of Coia’s in Dennistoun.

Right click, copy and paste to Glasgow’s West End and this place wouldn’t be out of place. What a fantastic array of all things fresh and fantastic in a deli that oozes(maybe not the best word) class and quality. Ok, your not going to do your regular shopping in here unless you aint short of a few pound. However its a great place to pick up an ingredient of genuine quality, something fresh for lunch or even a nice wee present for a good food lover. In short, this place is great and if it were nearer to me then i would frequent it with more… eh…frequency. Top notch deli.

I love delis. This could be due to the fact I worked in one as a student for four years. I could spend all day gazing at shelves filled with jars of olive oils, sunblush tomatoes and organic pasta sauces. 1901 is a gorgeous deli. Its location in Shawlands proves the South Side is beginning to creep up on the west end as most cosmopolitan suburb. The owners clearly know their artichokes from their stuffed vine leaves as the shelves are well stocked; there is even a vegan and gluten free section. That’s not either or, I mean vegan AND gluten free. Customers can enjoy their treats from the little breakfast bar which has been set up inside, although there isn’t much room. A lunch favourite is mine is the Greek salad, a much abused dish which can include the limp lettuce and five olives impostors. Make no mistake, the 1901 crispy lettuce leaves and generous chunks of feta offering does not fall under this category. 1901 is clearly a labour of love from owners who love delis almost as much as I do.

This deli has the very best in locally sourced goods, including cheese from I J Mellis and Brewhaha tea. The wooden shelves and flooring give this place a real authentic homely feel that welcomes customers as they browse the freshly baked loaves, gorgeous cakes and fine wines. The ideal place for a stroll on a Sunday to pick up ingredients for a delicious dinner or to enjoy a long and lazy coffee on a stool by the window.

Skirving Street is Shawland’s café centre: three places in a row offer coffee and snacks, and the 1901 is as much a café as a deli. Because of the amount of fresh produce in the cold cabinet, it is certainly the best place for a sandwich in the street. They have their own brand of coffee, which is smooth and light, and an excellent range of deli products, including some rich local cheeses and more olive oil varieties than I have ever needed. Their own range of chutney is superb, and the service is quick and helpful. As a café, it has a few disadvantages: it is small and a but chilly. But it seems to have the balance between local, intimate store and comprehensive stock just right.

This deli fulfils a useful but not especially inspirational function in the centre of Shawlands. It has a fairly good range of treats in little jars and packages, and some good sound wines(although these are pretty inaccessible). You can go in there and put a reasonable dinner together. However the chiller cabinet is a bit limited, as is the fresh bread selection, and in terms of buying in a fresh main course, there is not a lot of choice, or sometimes anything. Staff are pleasant, but not always knowledgeable, and overall it can be a bit pricey.

Good if you are looking for something different for a change. There are some seats but they aren’t too comfy so you won’t be staying long! Some of the cheese and breads are very tasty but as others have commented it is pricey but good for a change.

Great for speciality ingredients this deli is the place for people who are passionate about cooking. Whether its almond oil or a certain mustard you are looking for, you will find it at Deli 1901. Although it is a bit pricey, you are paying for quality.
