My mother came over from London for my wedding. She decided to buy a mother’s of the groom dress from Catherines of Partick. The store is in a convenient location — just a few minutes away from a subway stop, next to the main roads and a bus station. The staff were very friendly and there was a wide selection of occasional wear. It’s definitely a go-to store for all women who are looking for clothes for special occasions. My mother really enjoyed her dress and she looked absolutely amazing. Highly recommend.

Catherine’s Of Partick doesn’t look like it’s changed in years, but since it’s been around for over 75 of them why revamp what’s obviously working for them? As you can tell from the glinting, spangly dresses in the window this dress shop specialises in frocks for proms, weddings and that sort of one-off occasion that requires some glitz. Some of the stuff strikes me as being a little outdated, like those times when your aunt buys you clothes thinking they’re cool, but they are only her distorted idea of trendy. But then again, there are lots of pro’s to consider, especially their alterations and custom made services. As they say on their website and discuss in their shop, their clothing is all uniquely supplied, so although at times it may seem moderately expensive you will own a-one-of a-kind garment. It seems to be their biggest asset and something they should try and advertise more. This shop at times can be very«Strictly Ballroom» but there are some elegant Little Black D’s which would have you shimmering like a belle in Hollywood rather than a broad in Blackpool. Although the sequins may be blinding this shop can be deceptively spot on, and rates highly in customer service. I like the vampy cuts of the bust lines in those dresses, and you may be surprised to find a dress that will make a knock-out statement in this store. Definitely work checking out for a wedding or very special occasion.

Catherines of Partick has been around for over 75 years, making glamorous clothing for very formal occasions. I’ve been here a couple of times but never been very inspired by any of the dresses here. I was looking for a dress for my school leavers dance and as I was only 17, I don’t think they were sure what to show me, on the one hand I wanted something young and trendy but I also wanted to look classy and sophisticated. They came up with the worst dress I’ve ever seen in my life, it looked like The Little Mermaid meets Dita Von Teese, it was just bizarre. It had a long tail at the back but the actual dress itself was short with slits up each side. The colour was red with black fish net lace over it, it just looked awful. I honestly cannot think of anywhere that you could have worn that dress unless you were starring in the latest production of Chicago or some burlesque themed theatre show. At £275 it was designed for someone with more money than sense. I think it’s still nice to have traditional boutiques such as this one and it does have a very classy feel about it when you go in, but with High Street shops such as Karen Millen and Coast selling gorgeous formal dresses which are a lot more modern and cheap compared to the prices here, I somehow feel that Catherines of Partick is left a bit redundant and is more suited to the mother of the bride look.

Like most people in Glasgow — I had heard great things from Catherine’s of Partick. One quick look at the shop’s website will tell you that they were established over 75 years ago, and that they are the go-to shop of any Glasgow girl or woman looking for some special occasion wear. The shop itself is on Dumbarton Road — and is a really good size. I went in for a browse, and was met by about five members of staff(they take customer service very seriously in Catherine’s!). They were all friendly, and offered help straight away. I felt a little out of place just browsing — as the clothing in Catherine’s isn’t really something that you would buy on impulse. Instead, going to Catherine’s is more an experience in itself — as the staff are in place to help you choose the perfect outfit and generally spoil you! Although a lot of the clothing is aimed at Mother of the Bride/Groom, there is also a growing number of prom dresses. Oh, the sequins! If you’ve got a special event coming up and have a few hundred pounds to spend on the perfect outfit — then heading to Catherine’s is definitely in you best interest. Even better, Catherine’s have regular sales, where much of the stock is reduced by as much as 50%.
