This place makes THE best chippy chips ever. I was gutted when Alberto’s along the road closed its doors, but thankfully they opened up this place at the opposite end of the street by the park. As soon as you walk in, that smell hits you, the wonderful waft of vinegary chips and I always trust that smell to tell me where the good chips are at. Like most chippies, they serve up the standard suppers and chip shop staples, as well as really good quality Italian pizzas and pasta dishes. There’s also a café area which I’m told is great for breakfast, but I haven’t yet tried it myself. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is a cheap and cheerful chippy or a greasy spoon café, it’s a really decent chip shop and Italian café, masquerading as an unassuming eatery on the outskirts of Dennistoun. Well worth a visit, it’s the champion of chippies with an Italian heart.

Honestly one of the best little cafes I’ve ever been to, I go here regularly and can’t recommend it enough, on par with any other«quality» restaurant I’ve been to in Glasgow at less than half the price. An absolute gem

This nice wee café is situated on a corner, just past Alexandra Park and just before Haghill Primary school. It’s a take-away/chippy and café also. Saw this place opening just over a year ago and as soon as it opened I had to go in and try it out. Decided to sit in the café the first time I visited and had a milkshake(nice) and a sandwich ~ both were pretty good; I’d say your average wee café kinda fare. Decided to come here another time and ordered the caramel shortcake heated up with ice-cream(one of my fave desserts!) and they were only more than happy to do this for me(some places look at you as though you’ve just sprouted a 3rd eye when you ask for this) and it was very tasty indeed. After my sit-in experience I decided we better try the take-away side ~ ordered our standard chippy meal for two = a fish supper and a sausage supper. Have to say I was a bit disappointed with this fish supper compared to my favourite one(see my Benny’s Fish & Chicken Bar review), it wasn’t BAD as such just a tad meagre. I am a hungry Horace and the wee portion I was served up here(in a cardboard box — another thing I wasn’t a fan of. What’s wrong with good ol’ chippy paper?) made me do a sad face. The fish was nice, but again only one bit, compared to two or one and a half you get in other chippys. Chips were good too, again not enough for me. It’s not often I’m left a bit hungry after a fish supper but after this one I was. So, you say(or don’t), why the 4 stars? Well, since fish supper-gate I have since discovered that Zecchino’s do AMAZING pizzas! Of course! Why didn’t I realise an italian-named café/take-away might do top notch pizzas?! Duh. You can get the usual 7″, 10″ and 12″ BUTALSO a 16″ pizza! Woah Mama! This is pretty damn good for 2 hungry peoples. Also when you order a 12″ or 16″ pizza you receive a FREE bag of chips — HOLLA! They have many topping choices and everyone I’ve tried has been lovely. The boy likes that Dom**o’s pizza place ~ they’re okay but I must admit I prefer a more authentic, Italian style pizza and this is why we/I keep on going back to Café Zecchino’s time and time again. Believe me; they are pretty much responsible for my ever-growing dress size, oof. Tasty though. Also they sell their own, homemade ice-cream which is gorgeous too. Yumness.
