A lovely laid-back, yet grown-up bar/café with an easygoing atmosphere. I love this place and would give it five stars without hesitation except… My one gripe about Cosmo is that they stop serving hot food at 5:00pm. I tried to order a lovely looking mezzo platter the other night and was told that I was just a bit too late. What a shame, as my friend and I were prepared to stay, order two and call that our dinner, but instead we left after that and went off to have dinner elsewhere. Does the chef turn into a pumpkin at the stroke of five? It really doesn’t seem to make any sense. Other than that, this place is heavenly(or cosmic, I suppose): tasty coffee, a nice selection of wines and non-alcoholic drinks, a decent variety of snacks and sweets, Cream of Galloway ice cream, what more could we ask for? Oh yes… a la carte service past 5:00pm. Please?

I often choose to pop into Café Cosmo when I fancy a coffee or beer and end up staying at the GFT to watch a matinée. Perhaps the best cinema café in Scotland(even surpassing Edinburgh’s Cameo and Filmhouse cafes), with its clever décor with subtle cinema references in an art deco style, in keeping with the history of the GFT, and a great range of WEST beers on tap — including Hefeweizen and my favourite, Munich Red, which is a very rare find indeed. They even have a good collection of whiskies for such a wee bar. All their drinks can be taken into the cinema as well as the obligatory ice cream pots.

Only started going here recently on my main trips to the GFT over the film festival. I normally bring my own juice and snacks, but have found a wee purchase in here and taking the time to absorb the liveliness in the surroundings before a movie to be a far more enjoyable experience. The prices are reasonable and the service is great. It’s not huge so at peak times it can be a bit cosy. Warm and welcoming and my new pre-movie place!

A classy alternative to the ever increasing chain store coffe shops and a cultured option if you fancy a cheeky wee pint. Located within the GFT(Glasgow Film Theatre), Café Cosmo is a wonderful little joint with decent grub, nice décor(subtle but noticably art décor… ish), good vibe and friendly service. With a good range of lunch snacks(snadwiches, soups etc) and the usual overly complicated coffee options(a coffee please, just a coffee) Cosmo is a nice option if you have time for a nice civilised sit down lunch rather than the almost customery eat on the march which appears to represent our working nation… and we wonder why we are stressed! On the flip side of the coin, Cosmo is a nice chic wee bar with a comfortable atmosphere to just relax and chat. Ok its not the place you want to go for a «charge!!», but if your in the mood for a grown up, civilised pint or glass of that other stuff, then this is a nice option.

Despite being located inside the Glasgow Film Theatre, Café Cosmo deserves to be reviewed in its own right. While most cafés and sandwich places in Glasgow have tended towards dry paninis and cheap filter coffee, Café Cosmo is a wonderful café-bar with a great ambiance and lovely décor. Even if you’re not in to see a film, it’s a great place to lunch, grab a coffee, read a book, and/or have a chat with friends. The café has a simple menu, including paninis, sandwiches, soups, and baked potatoes. They also have a good selection of drinks and little things on which to nibble(Boost bars, Tunnocks biscuits, etc.) As Gareth noted, it tends to get pretty busy in the hour or so before a screening, but despite being quite small and full it doesn’t feel crowded. It’s very intimate and relaxed, and the staff are lovely. Although the main entrance opens to a set of stairs, Café Cosmo is also wheelchair accessible, with another entryway at ground level. Definitely one of Glasgow’s most charming and welcoming cafés.

Although it is part of the Glasgow Film Theatre, Café Cosmo is worth a visit even when there are no films to see. It was my regular haunt for lunch and coffees when I worked in the area, and the relatively recent refit– an appropriately cinematic themed– makes this one of the most relaxing and smart place near Sauchiehall Street. It offers a traditional range of paninis and the like, and the extra salad isn’t really worth it: however, it is the coffee and bar that make this a real pull. The only time it gets uncomfortably busy is in the hour before a film, in the evening. The rest of the time, it is intimate with fast, happy service. I still use it whenever I am shopping in this part of town, and I am delighted to say that it has lost none of its charm.
