Stopped in on our way home. We were looking for somewhere that was showing the football and this seemed to be the only place in town. Even without that the staff were super friendly. I asked for a cup of tea(designated driver n all) and they didn’t have a machine but pointed me to a café and said it was fine to bring it in here. Now wed had the exact opposite experience at another pub in Devon where we’d essentially be asked to leave for bringing in outside drink so this was brilliant. It was a really nice place to while away an evening watching football and even without the big screen id say it remains so.

Standard small pub. It does suffer by not quite having a clear identity. Is it a pre club let’s get tanked up pub? Is it a wine bar for a yuppie having a quiet drink before returning to his massive house. Is it jock bar to shout about rugby matches? Is it a quiet town pub. In truth, it’s none of these things, but seems to take on different guises depending on the day of the week or time of day. I can understand a pub wanting to cover as many bases as possible, but I feel this place does suffer with it’s lack of discernible character.

Gandy’s does good food and good beer, it’s also open late. Food is usual pub grub except they do a range of British Classics for a fiver, I recommend the Sausage’n’Mash. Beers include Staropramen and San Miguel.

Gandys has a pretty good wine selection for a standard pub. Its been done up recently too and the old bar remains so its a nice place to while away a few hours. Later in the evening, there is a space for dancing too.
