Friendly welcome and staff very accommodating as we had a pram with us. We were offered tap water and asked about a child’s menu once we were seated. Waiter was great as we were very slow in deciding what to have! Atmosphere nice disputed being quite quiet! We had two platters and some house wine. Quite expensive but the food was great! Will definitely go back and loved the brand purchases that we took away!

A STYLISHPLACETOEAT I’m glad that Bill’s has a very strong branding across its chain and Epsom is no different. I like the décor, it’s varied and full of bits and pieces to buy(if you are wealthy enough) like own label jams and marmalades, fine biscuits etc. The food is a bit pricey but good quality, fresh and presented well. The place is clean and tidy generally. The staff speak in a friendly way, certainly polite but they do have a couple of traits that could be better. Firstly, I have heard them many times ask arrivals if they have booked and then make more of a fuss than they should when there is no booking since there are plenty of empty tables and the people come and go before the place fills up. I guess they think that simulating high demand is good marketing, when its not because customers aren’t stupid and can see through this. Secondly, and this may be a bit cynical of me, the staff act customer friendly but they dont really seem to care. For example, when I last visited my chair was broken(the leg was loose). I switched chairs and informed the waitress that the chair was broken. She said OK and tucked it into the table next to us and did nothing further. Was the chair going to mend itself then before the next person sat on it? She was polite but her actions were pretty«cant care less». This is not an isolated incident. I have noted a number of times where I thought that if the staff had just thought about their customer for a minute then it would have been obvious that they should have taken some action. Maybe my expectations are too high here? All it all though, a great place as long as you are very explicit about what you want.

Enjoyed breakfast this morning at Bill’s in Epsom! The restaurant is very cosy, with various foods and sundries for sale which double as décor. The service was friendly and attentive and yielded a relaxed atmosphere. I ordered the blueberry pancakes, which were well-prepared and slightly on the egg-heavy side.(I like this, but my husband would prefer a bit more flour in his!) The pancakes come with a generous share of fresh fruit which adds a great balance to the plate. Next time, however, I would ask for the syrup on the side as it was a bit sweet for my taste. My husband kindly shared a few bites of his meal, scrambled eggs on sourdough toast with streaky bacon. The eggs were prepared perfectly and the sourdough toast was so good I would gladly just eat it!(which is an option on the menu!) I definitely recommend you give Bill’s a try!

I was sad when Field to Fork closed, however it didn’t take long for Bill’s to pop up in it’s place. I was a bit wary at first, hearing that it was«just a burger chain» from some of the locals, but in the end I was pleasantly surprised. I would call the interior comfortable, but I could see it being a bit claustrophobic for some. They have various edible items for sale around the restaurant, which gives it a very casual feel, though the hanging chandeliers and glowing candle sticks on every table add a little something. I stuck with the basics and just had a burger and fries, which turned out to be the best burger I’ve found in Epsom. My wife had the roast half chicken with grilled corn and sweet potato fries. Being Expat Americans, this really felt like home, and was even better than my burger. I tried a couple of the craft beers on the menu as well, which were a welcome change from the usual line-up of ales and lagers in the neighbouring pubs. My wife had a peach tea, which was apparently quite tasty(though not really my thing.) My only complaint is that we tried to order a starter which never showed. Our waiter apologized profusely, and thankful it never appeared on our bill.(He seemed a bit new, as I imagine most of their staff is still trying to get into the swing of things.) Other than that, it was an excellent first visit, and I look forward to returning soon.

Did pop in for a pot of tea. Service so quick had no time to think! Pot of tea arrived in a metal container, ordered a tea cake and three jam pots arrived with spoons. Tea needed to be a little stronger, for my taste, but that’s choice. Place had many having late Breaky, and young children were catered for. Very cosy and busy atmosphere, some people outside, a little on the dear side, but just do not ask for fish & chips!
