Shockingly poor performance leading to substantial financial and time loss. I employed Choice to renovate my flat, involving moving some walls, installing heating system, kitchen and two bathrooms, refurbishing ceilings, walls and floors, decorating etc. The work was scheduled for completion in 10 weeks; after 16 weeks it was still very far from complete and I had to sack the company and engage new contractors. The companies who quoted for completing the work said that much of what had been done was substandard and would have to be redone. They estimated the costs of completion at around 20k, 13k more than remained on the budget with Choice, and at a further 9 weeks of work. It is extremely difficult to recover money in these circumstances: I had a Scottish Building homeowners’ contract, but the cost of pursuing action is prohibitive. I would strongly caution against employing this company in any circumstances.
Note that Choice claim on their website to be accredited to the Edinburgh Chambers of Commerce and Constructionline. I have confirmed with the trade bodies concerned that these claims are false, and have reported the matter to the Lothian and Borders police.
