I visit this Sainsbury’s for my weekly shop. While I do try and buy meat and veg at independent places, it’s just not feasible to bankrupt myself buying 100% independent brand everything else. So I goto Sainsbury’s — my favourite and least seemingly anti-british producer, supermarket. The staff are helpful, the aisles are full, and the bakery, butcher and fish monger are there if you want that sort of thing or have forgotten sausages or something(or if you want to pick up reduced to clear meat — a bit of a thing I like to do) It’s a decent shop. One complaint. Every week we go in and split our weekly shop between two cards. Every week the till person has to call over a senior till supervisor(Till Queen/King) to explain the process.(Ok most weeks if not every week) Other than that it’s pretty decent. Apart from the odd gangs of kids you get in there. They’re horrible. So supermarket good. Children from Gorgi, bad.

As a local super market, it does the job. I like the clothes section, they actually have some decent things and in bigger sizes too. The shop itself is clean and well laid out. I don’t find they have the best selection of vegetarian food that the bigger Sainsburys have. It can be hit and miss with the length of sell by dates depending on what day you go in. On the whole, it is nice and you can get most things you need. They have a big car park and plenty of shopping trollies that don’t need a £1 coin to operate.

I was visiting my son in Edinburgh this year and last year. He lives near Sainsburys. I loved the store and loved the people working there too. The restuarent was soo good an loved the workers there too. Sainsbury has good food selections and great prices. I like that its a super store. Its like our Walmarts here in the USA. We brought food and I brought a beautiful dress there. Thank you Sainsbury for all the great buys… and the wonderful people too

As far as supermarkets and choice Sainsburys is fine. It offers a wide selection of food and some of it is pretty good. Their butcher isn’t the greatest and its pretty annoying that some sainsburys carry different items than other ones. With that said, the fruit and vegetables are consistently good and of high quality. Some of the meat is pretty good too. The prices can vary but if you buy just what you need it can be pretty cheap compared to other stores offering similiar stuff.

Well now, what can you say about a great big shop that has shelves in neat rows and a seemingly endless supply of both food and drink in a bewildering array of styles and flavours? It’s a shop, a really big one — within a ten minute walk of five more such places, all with different branding over the door. The west of Edinburgh is well served by this kind of outlet, but then why wouldn’t the multinationals work hard to attract the discerning customers or Gorgie? But there’s the problem… when the Sainsbury’s PA kicks in they describe themselves as ‘Sainsbury’s Murrayfield’, as though that’s going to sound better? Or more recognisable? Well, don’t think I’m going to give them four stars if they don’t care to acknowledge their EH11 roots. Oh, and there’s dry cleaning concession in their too which has done a great job on my suits in the past. The customer toilets are well maintained too. It’s a good shop, well run and friendly. Such a shame about the identity crisis.

This is one of my local ‘big stores’. It gets four stars for its range and it does have a fab gluten free section(and GF beer!) but Sainsbury just doesn’t wow me the way it used to. I’m not sure what has happened. Watching Nigella or Delia and looking for that must have ingredient? Go here. Looking for rotisserie, bakery and fresh fish under one roof with free parking, head here. Want your beer tokens(sorry currency) for hollibags — pop in and get your milk and newspaper at the same time. Need a new tv in the sale — yep, sorted here and all with added Nectar points. There is a fair range of deals to be had but it does work out more expensive, than say going to Asda. Even given the choice and its proximity to chez moi, I only concede to shopping here once in a while now because I hate the queues. To avoid a rant, its always busy, there’s never enough staff on till’s, regardless of when I shop. The staff are all really nice, but when I’ve stood in yet another queue for what feels like half my life and I’m starving, I just want to get served and go. Hence I shop here less than I used to and prefer the little Scotmid who manage queues perfectly.

Try living in Westfield Street which has turned into a superstore car park. This is a private road so the council will not fund any repairs. Road tax does not entitle drivers to park on private property. Added to this is a lot of frustration of not being able to park anymore and disturbance to what was once a peaceful cul-de sac. Sainsburys and the City of Edinburgh planners have really trodden upon this street. Please show some respect and do not use this street to park — residents have been known to challenge shoppers and block their cars in.

This is my local Salisbury’s and where every Monday I do my weekly shop. It is a large store, but what bothers me as half the store is not food. This in my eyes defeats the purpose of a supermarket as surely they are food first and TVs second? Clearly it works for them but it does get annoying as choices are limited. The freezer section is very small which for a poor student means I have limited choices in frozen chips. I also find there is a lack of alternatives to brand names i.e. supermarket own brand. On some occasions I would much prefer to just buy the supermarket brand but because this shop has a limited selection of food I can’t do this all the time. I do enjoy the«Oops!” section though. As a first year and an Asda shopper, the Oops section was like finding gold. For those who aren’t in the know, this is the reduced section. They always have reduced meat which is handy for throwing in the freezer. The staff here are very friendly and chatty which is a novelty for supermarket staff.

This is my regular shop, being just a 5min walk away from my flat. There is no set time to go to get the best availability, as it varies every day. This appears to depend on how is the manager that day, very annoying. They are also really bad at having the aisles blocked with large cages early in the evening, rather than using the smaller shopper friendly versions. I also hate having to go in on a Sunday, as if you want anything like tinned tomatoes, you will have to go on hand and knees to find an unbashed tin at the very back of the shelf. I have to agree on the shoplifters. I saw a guy just before New Year taking a TV from the display unit. In full view of security and the customer services desk. He was wearing a similar coloured top to the staff, but still! Clothes section isn’t bad, but as they don’t send out leaflets like Tesco etc, and our local paper was disbanded in the budget cuts, you never know when they have offers on etc.

This is a big supermarket, with wide selcetion of products, offerering not only food, but also clothes, home articules, electronics, pets supplies. No matter what you looking for you should be able to find it here. The prices are comparable to other supermarkets. The store is always clean and organised. Staff is friendly, helpfull. It is busy during afternoon hours, so it is better to visit it during morning hours. Lack of parking is a negative part of the store.

This is a decent sized Sainsbury’s with a really impressive non-food section and a huge selection of Tu clothing. I’m a big fan of their clothing, especially the knitwear, so it was good to find a store with a good selection. There is plenty of parking and a huge amount of both disabled and parent-and-child parking. The food selection is not as huge as the non-food ranges but it does tend for the more upmarket end of the market, a nice change from the cheap and cheerfulness of Asda and Tesco(living outside Edinburgh, my only large local supermarkets). There is a wide range of ready meals, reflecting, I guess, its almost city centre location. It has a very good selection of alcoholic drinks. The free from section is the largest I have seen in Edinburgh. Its not the cheapest supermarket, definitely. Its pretty darn nice though.

This is the latest edition to the Sainsburys family and one which I for one was looking forward to. It’s a large store and has a plethora of non-food items — the clothes section is one of the biggest I’ve seen and there are plenty of DVDs and books, etc. as well as seasonal gifts. The shelves are usually well stocked and I’ve found the staff to be very helpful and friendly — even giving me money off my shopping one time even though I didn’t have the relevant voucher. However, I have only visited the store a handful of times which, given that I’m a fan of Sainsburys and live within walking distance, is a bad sign. I find that the stock they have is not sufficient for me to complete my monthly shop — the freezer section is not very large and they don’t stock many of the items I buy regularly, which is a shame. There are also no dedicated parking spaces or bicycle racks(although this may have been rectified so don’t take my word for it) to the rear of the store, which is the entrance most locals would use as it is difficult to get round to the front entrance from the local area without a large and often busy detour. Overall, a decent enough store for stocking up on bits and pieces or for non-food goods, but not ideal for a monthly shop.

This supermarket is in Gorgie but insists on calling itself Sainsbury’s Murrayfield. I use it at lunchtimes where all the fancy food has yellow discount labels on it. It’s never busy and the shelves are always well stocked. There is a Foreign exchange desk, café and some sort of learning centre. I couldn’t shop here all the time as its much pricier than ASDA. However the entertainment factor of the most audacious shoplifters can make it worth the trip
