Colourful… I think thast probably the word for it. I dont think I have ever been anywhere quite like this place, in their favour they rock a great cheeky vimto!

It’s a 5 star establishment on a Friday and Saturday night from 9 onwards. Noisy, rowdy, funny, great music, cheap drinks, fun people. It’s lived in, it has character, and while it might give off the vide of local-pub-for-local-people, it’s a friendly place. During the day or even week nights it’s an average pub; quiet but a little strange at times. Good strange. Having recently endured a night of clubs in Edinburgh itself it brings it home to me — this is where I want to be at midnight on a Friday.

Leith at it’s best, be prepared for a wild night out, with an eclectic mix of customers and maritime paraphernalia alike. My husband and I went here for our first date :-)

If you do like your pub re-furbed and fake-themed, then the Port is not for you. On the other hand, if you want a scruffy, traditional howf with friendly punters and quick service, look no further. Quiet, steady trade through the day, the place starts jumping at 8.00pm, with folks tending to leap on the bar for a an energetic boogie. The décor is organic — like Topsy, it’s just ‘growed and growded’ — colourful and chaotic. It can get very crowded at the weekend.

i wasnt going to do this, cause this is my favorite bar in the city and i felt i should keep some things to myself. but last week the bartender gave us a ‘special’ shot. it was so special that i wondered what part of the car it came out of as i ran to the one toilet there is with vom in my mouth. then i vommed in the toilet as the non locking door swung in the wind before a nice older woman came in, looked at me like i had vommed on her face, as she watched the rest of my vom show. so i guess what im saying is that to punish that shitty bartender for giving us insta-vom-a-shot, i will now hopefully fill the place with any american who may be coming here for the festival as said bartender would hate me for it– especially when the entire bar sings«sunshine on leith»(the highlight of every closing weekend night) what im also saying is that despite my recent vomathon, it is still my favorite bar and it will be yours too. its the diviest bar in town, with the best weekend dj in the city. it is a must do– and bring every american with you.

This is too shocking… I can’t believe this! I used to live in Leith and this pub is on the otherside of my apartment(or ‘flat’). I remember making International Calls on the otherside of this pub, in a phonebooth, right next to a busstop, this pub is where Leith Walk turns left and keep on going… I don’t really remember much about the pub apart from being cheap beer and old men sitting around all day… This sh*t brings back memorirs…

Doesn’t get much better than this… Cough! Clientele are a bit rowdy but the beer is good and cheap. Watch your back going to the toilets though… Its like trainspotting.

Sad old pub that needs a scrub, although has a high proportion of scubbers. Also, in North Leith speak this is a place notorious for attracting sailors… sorry for the stereotype but I am quoting locals. This pub is about to close and change ownership(punch) so if you want to enjoy/savour a real Leith pub, then either wait for Nobles to re-open or go to the Vollie in Leith Walk(been there since the 1800’s– decent boozer without the pretentious ‘bohemians’ that infected the port o’leith for the last 25 years

The Port O’Leith is, depending on what you want on a night out, either the best pub in Edinburgh, or one of the worst. If you want a quiet, sedate place to drink, or one where you might pose in your latest designerwear, then this isn’t the place for you. However if you want some good old fashioned fun with other people who are up for the same, or you want to engage in some people watching, this is the place. This pub seems to attract characters from all over Edinburgh, all of whom want to enjoy themselves in this small little pub. There is a long bar here and the ceiling is covered in flags from all over the world. Seating is pretty limited but you can usually bag a seat if you are quick as people are coming and going all the time. The pub has a pretty good jukebox which seems to be playing all the time and people will quite happily get up to sing and dance along. The bar staff are amazing here — you rarely have to wait long to be served and drinks are pretty cheap too. I happily admit to loving this place and have very fond memories of evenings spent here in the past. This is a true Edinburgh institution and long may it continue.

A true legend of the Edinburgh pub trade, the Port of Leith is a favourite calling port of mine. It makes a tremendous filling station with its eclectic mix of punters and its bohemian decorations. There is no furbishings or decorations as such, just a mass of flags and colourful paraphenalia everywhere, making th epub quite rainbowesque. Seriously weird, its well worth a look inside
