I have visited Olive on several occasions and it never fails to impress. Whether I’m in the mood for a pancake breakfast, complete with Canadian maple syrup and bacon, a light Mediterranean sandwich and soup at lunch, or simply an Americano with one of the many sweet cookies or cupcakes on offer, Olive always delivers. All of the food is homemade and everything I’ve tried has been delicious. The café itself is clean and cozy, and the owners are a delight. It’s a great place to meet up with friends, read a book, or grab a quick lunch to go. Definitely worth a visit!

Jen was hungry, Jen had a craving for a big, cheesy panini, Jen went to Olive Café. Having been here for lunch once before, I knew it was a good option for lunch. Salads, paninis, wraps, all hand-made. Mmm. This time it was a paprika chicken, peppers, onions, cheese panini. Om nom nom. Perfect. It’s a lovely wee café, and I got talking to the girl behind the corner(admiring the cakes) when she told me it was their birthday that day and offered me a litle bit of birthday cake! Which was delicious. Had I not already had cake that day, I would have bought one of the ginger cucpakes. The owner bakes them fresh herself every day. It makes me very happy that Olive café is a convenient lunch-time stop for me. Home-made, tasty fare. Oh and Happy Birthday Olive!

Don’t even bother trying to eat here at lunchtime unless your getting your food to go! It’s always busy then, and it’s easy to see why: instead of just being yet another sandwich shop, Olive also does homemade main dishes mediterranean-style. It’s a great place to meet for a catch-up with friends for brunch, or for coffee in the afternoon(yes, I’m a student and I have too much spare time!) and the small seating area in the window is great for people-watching! All in all, it’s perfect for when you get sick of all the same bland cafés that Edinburgh has so many of.

The Olive Café is a great little Mediterranean Café in the centre of the Newington area of Edinburgh, a stones through away from the University and the Meadows. They serve traditional Greek and Turkish food which is very authentic and full of flavour. Their hummus and pitta bread is delicious and light enough to eat as a snack rather than a main meal. The Olive Café has a vast range of sandwiches on the menu and they serve breakfasts so it would an ideal place to swing by on your way to work or classes in the morning. Although it is quite small in size inside, it is incredibly charming and has a great atmosphere and the staff are always very warm and inviting. They also sell a selection of hot drinks, their coffee is particularly tasty. There is a small seating area inside which can get pretty cramped during lunch time and so The Olive Café is predominantly used as a takeaway.

This deli specialised particularly in Greek and Turkish treats and also serves more hearty meals during the day. It’s a little dark inside but the food is good(although the mussaka is a bit soggy– sorry I compare to my aunts’) and the sevice is warm and friendly. Most definetely a lovely alternative to a sandwich bar for brunch/lunch and a place I hope to return to soon. They even serve greek/turkish coffee(tis the same thing people settle down!)

Olive Café is a nice little find. It is effectivly a medditeranian café that puts italian twists on some very mundane british meals. So, if you fancy a change, this makes and excellent place to head to for something just that little bit different. But it also does so much more — Olive provides breakfasts, as well as vegan and vegetarian meals, plus its fairtrade coffee — something which it proudly states on its front door. The café itself is small, but has an area for you to be able to sit in and enjoy your food, but really this is a wee bit cramped and generally tables are gone early into the lunch time rush.
