As Claire mentioned below, it is the partner to Leo’s Beanery, and now another sibling to Leo’s as they have taken over Dovecot Café. It is a lovely little spot, with the same delicious cakes and some smaller options of the well-made food you can find at Leo’s. The coffee is great and is definitely the only option in and around Tollcross for a guaranteed good coffee. It is a nice spot for a rainy afternoon or morning for a browse in the paper. Staff are lovely and it is well worth a visit if you are looking for the best cakes you can find in Edinburgh, paired with a stellar coffee!

Edinburgh is just so darn good these days even when I’m becoming increasingly fussy over where I spend my cash and the five star, gluten free reviews continue! Leo and Ted’s is the little sibling to Leo’s Beanery. I had been brunching at Leo’s and whilst paying, I noticed a flyer/free coffee voucher for the latest arrival and it was closer to home. After working at home last weekend, I decided to head out for a walk/grab a coffee so this was the perfect opportunity to check out Leo & Ted’s. Was fairly busy, even mid-Sunday afternoon and I think seats around 15 but I got a table. I grabbed a decaf coffee and checked out their cakes. It’ll be mainly a coffee, cake, soup kind of place rather than the all day food vibe of Leo’s Beanery. Probably about 6 cake options and 4 of these were gluten free. I had a fabulous gluten free plum tart. You never get pastry cakes anywhere that are gf so I was really impressed and it was beautiful. Tbh, I had a moment of ‘is there a mistake and this isn’t gf?’ but it was gf and I had to stop myself ordering a second one. I did allow myself a second coffee though as that was great too. Nice vibe inside, dark grey walls, a bit industrial but not overly so but warm and cosy with friendly staff. They sell coffee beans(brand escapes me) but just say a well known Edinburgh coffee place had staff popping in here for these beans for at home. I’ll definitely be a regular here as its on my way home from yoga and I hope the plum tarts will be a cake table staple!
