Copper Bird Café has changed ownership and is now called L’Echoppe. I used to often get lunch from here, so it was interesting to see what the new place was like. It’s a relief to notice that the place is as cute as ever — simple vintage style décor, but more importantly the food is still good! I had the soup of the day which was butternut squash, peanut and coconut. It sounded a bit more interesting than the usual plain butternut squash one(though nothing wrong with that either). There was also a lunch deal of soup and croque monsieur for £4.95 but I asked for some bread to go with the soup, and got 2 lovely, still warm slices to go. What really grabbed my attention were the lovely ‘petit financiers’ and madeleines that were displayed. I tried a sample bit of one of the almond one and was hooked. I just had to buy one, so chose the blueberry financier. A tiny morsel of sweetness to bring a bit of delight to an otherwise dull afternoon. Back to the soup. It was ok, though the peanut flavour had taken over and it was almost like eating just peanut sauce soup. Having said this, I finished it all. The ladies at the café explained that they have been open only 2 weeks and are still adjusting the menu according to what people like. My only wish is that the financiers stay on the menu.
