Hula used to be my ‘oh god I’m going to be in the studio all day I better eat something sustaining and vaguely healthy so that I don’t die’ go to. Its a bit quirky, with bright colours and illustrations on the wall. It seems to attract the health conscious folk of Edinburgh, but I mainly went in for the excellent bagels. Those huge oversized polo shaped guiltiness can be filled with a variety of things, but I went for the unhealthiest you can manage in this shop, cream cheese. They also do lots of nice things, and super coloured juices that I am slightly afraid of. Great place to get a quick bite while in the grassmarket.

Hula is the perfect place to eat if you’re trying to be healthy. It’s casual and friendly so great for a catch up. They do a great selection of juices and smoothies. I especially like the hot juices, they give you the warmth of a coffee with out the caffeine. If you’re looking for a boost then the hot apple pie has ginger and cinnamon so will keep you going through the afternoon. They have a variable selection of cakes, some days they run out by late afternoon so check on the way in. The wifi is also free and a good speed so it’s a good location to work from too.

Was looking for somewhere to read through some journals whilst enjoying a comforting Latte. Coffee was really good. I would say it’s up there with the best coffee places in Edinburgh. The only reason It doesn’t get my full rating is because of the atmosphere. Although it’s nice place it doesn’t give you that warm feeling that will make it your regular. Overall though great staff and good coffee!

This place is a lot cosier and warmer inside than it looks outside. I retreated from a bitter Edinburgh cross wind into Hula and happily chilled with my laptop for a couple of hours. Their wifi is great and there are loads of small tables so you don’t need to take up lots of space or feel the need to be rushed out. The service was great — happy workers equal happy customers. If I’m being honest, my salad looked a lot better than it tasted. Don’t get me wrong, it was perfectly nice, but just lacking in some thought about the mixture of flavours. I got carrot and coriander soup though which was lovely and hearty, if a bit on the thin side. I would go back.

Good for juice but staff not really friendly, crowded and feel rushed as not much seating! Was actually asked not to eat some food bought from the market inside even though me and my friend got drinks AND food! Not very impressed and have been here multiple times.

Hula is a good and place to go for a smoothie when energy boost is needed. In addition, it offers cute seating and an opportunity to just enjoy or even buy works of some contemporary local artists. I was pleased with my drink and the service — I went for my favourite refreshing green smoothie with spinach, apple and açai. Good to know Unilocal Check in gives a 10% discount as well.

Hula is cute, quick and affordable — the lunch time menu soup and bagel/wrap is super cheap and filling. Smoothies are lovely too! If you’re looking for a quick and quite healthy fix for lunch I’d definitely recommend this place. The Popeye juice is my favourite!

We had wonderful breakfast here! The juices were fresh and delicious! I really enjoyed the salmon bagel toast and the rarotonga shake! the only reason we didnt gave the perfect 5 stars score is the fact that the lattice leaves wasn’t that fresh unfortunately. Highly recommended! We will defiantly come back

Ooooh… Believe me I wanted to give this place 5 stars! In need for some healthier food I decided to make a special trip to this placed, based on the reviews here in Unilocal.Yes, ok, that probably raised my expectations quite high! Cute place, love the colorfulness. Looked for healthy options but ended up with the bagel with salmon and tomato soup. It was ‘OK’, nothing extraordinary… I do have to say I might be a little spoiled healthy food places wise, but so ‘healthy’ I wouldn’t call bagels with some toppings. Another time I had the chicken pesto bagel to go but all the chicken was on 1 side and the fresh tomato on the other. Quite steep prices and nothing that blew me away… Have not found other ‘healthier’ options around yet so I do understand the popularity, but really a bit under impressed. They do are very proud of their status here on Unilocal and offer a special discount when you check in in the restaurant! At least at the time I was there. Not bad, not amazing, quite expensive, cute interior, thats it…

Loved the Scottish salmon bagel!!! Warm and crispy bagel, with just the right amount of smoked salmon! I must said, smoked salmon in the UK tastes better than those we get in Australia, it’s not as salty! Love love love!

My husband and I came here for breakfast while on holiday in Edinburgh. We ordered a smoothie, caffe latte, porridge with cinnamon, and fruit bowl(yogurt. Granola, and fruit), all of which was extremely delicious, and came to about £15. It has a comfortable seating area with a cool artist atmosphere, and the employees were all very friendly and efficient as well. Would recommend for anyone looking for a delicious, healthy stop a few minutes from the Castle.

Every time I pop into this little lovely oasis I feel all tropical and summer has arrived! No matter rain or shine, smoothie or hot chocolate with cinnamon & honey — this place will melt your heart! The coffee is by artisan roast and I usually go for a flat white but somehow I opt for a all black. I’m not sure why but it just warms me through on a dull winters day and lasts a tad longer! If I stop here for lunch I go for the wrap and soup deal. Not only a tasty wrap and bowlful, it’s awesome for value too. I ponder usually on what wrap I go for as I get stuck between the veggie and the tuna! The staff are always so nice and chatty, so even on the dullest of dull days this little corner of sun will burn the clouds away!

Hula is a place I have always wanted to like, and despite a few nice experiences here with smoothies/juice, I have a slightly«meh» feeling about it nowadays. It wants to be a healthy café, it wants to be a hip eaterie, it’s colourful and on Victoria street. There is wifi. It has a lot of potential. I got soup today. Tasty, but at £4.25 a little on the steep side given that so many other places in town offer more for less. My friend paid around £5 for her smoothie, which though tasty was certainly not worth the high price tag. I had a look at the cakes before leaving the shop, a few gluten free options but nothing particularly inspiring.

I love everything on offer here and want to try everything from the detoxifying smoothie, to the immunity boosting smoothie just after I try this Betty ford! I feel healthier already, think I might just treat myself to a delicious piece of chocolate brownie! Well done me! Will never be away from hula in the summer!

Hula is one of those spots I frequent after i’ve been binge eating junk food. It’s literally impossible not to feel healthy here — from the quirky patio furniture to the tea towels on the walls and astroturf at the front, you basically lose three pounds just walking in the door*(*results may vary). I frequent this place most when i’m feeling a wee bit homesick. It’s a little snippet of my yoga crazy, green juice chugging, home town tucked away in the Grassmarket. Like most brilliant health conscious places — they make you feel good about eating cream cheese. I’m serious, you will feel like a million bucks for choosing that smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel. Is it the healthiest thing on the menu? Heck no. But you’re also having a peppermint tea and a green juice, so that cancels out any harm caused by your full fat dairy indulgence: science. This theory works with most of their menu. Delicious, healthy options with a heck ton of cheese — often melted. God bless you Hula. Don’t get me wrong, if you want to go the true blue health route, it has you covered as well. From heart healthy salads to house made soup — you can find a decent meal here with or without cheese cheating. Bonus points for gluten free options. It also boasts the best juice selection i’ve found thus far in Edinburgh and *drum roll please* — they carry green juice! Add a scoop of frozen yogurt and have a double lunch! Hula will continue to be my go-to when I want to feel hip, healthy and/or need a quirky spot to host a lunch meeting. My only complaint? I wish they had better wifi. This gal needs to internet gush 24⁄7.

We were staying in the Grassmarket area, and after a night of drinking all I wanted was a green juice. Low and behold, Hula appeared like a beacon and gave me what I needed. I told them what I was looking for, and they recommended a juice not on the menu — all I can recall was mango and spinach(I think apple too? Ginger?) but once I heard those things I was like — SOLD. We got a wheatgrass«booster» too which didn’t affect the taste like I thought it would, fortunately. I think it was about £5 for a large with the booster. Worth it! My fiancé and I shared it, though I drank most of it because it was so addictively good. So fruity and yummy, you’d never know how many vegetables you were consuming! I watched them make it, which was really fun, they have these crazy industrial blenders and just jam whole apples in there. Service was really friendly, took a while to get the juice but the café was so cozy and cute that I didn’t mind waiting. We didn’t eat there, but their menu looks so wonderful and healthy that I hope to grab a bite there another day.

Hungover on New Year’s Day and in need of some warmth and a drink, we hunted down Hula after checking Unilocal for suggestions. Located in a great spot for tourists checking out key areas in the city, it’s in an ideal spot. It looked warm and bright from the outside so we headed in with ideas of coffee and cake. They were able to accommodate five of us in a back room that you wouldn’t know existed if just looking in from the outside. Decorated with lots of cute pictures of animals it was a fun place to spend an hour warming up, reliving tales of Hogmanay and cure our weary bodies. Once we glanced at the menus we all swiftly changed from wanting coffees to wanting to try something from their extensive juice and smoothie menu. I opted for a delicious and zingy smoothie of Apple, lime, ginger and lemon, with an added energy shot of guarana and ginseng. Just what the doctor ordered! They had some lovely gluten free cakes on offer, but my smoothie was sufficient for me. Some of my friends got cakes though and really enjoyed them. The smoothies very tasty and healthy, though a tad expensive at £5 for a large. We were pleased to find we could unlock a 10% off code when checking in on the Unilocal app and so we had that knocked off our bill. Every little helps. This is a really cute, wholesome café. A great little find.

My goodness, how have I not reviewed hula yet! Hula is a mad healthy bunch and juice bar. They do sandwiches, soups, bagels, wraps, and salads. All of which can be accompanied with something from their selection of freshly squeezed juices, smoothies or coffees and teas. This place definitely has its dietary options down. Gluten free, vegan, they’ve got it covered with loads of options for making certain dishes vegan if they aren’t on the menu. I’m a little guilty of ordering the same chicken pesto bagel when I’m here so I don’t have a great idea of how good everything else is on the menu. The juices and smoothies are amazing however. I’ve tried almost all of them and they’re all delicious. The added boosters make them even healthier! Today I am enjoying the delightfully festive got Apple pie smoothie. Apple, cinnamon, hint of ginger, heated up! Yummo! The coffee here is some of the best I’ve tasted in Edinburgh too. Another very cool thing about hula is that it’s not just a café, it’s a gallery too. The place is full of bright colourful art from a different local artist every few months. There are also other things like Christmas cards and loose teas for sale here too. It’s a lovely representation of how into local business Hula are, sharing their space for mutual benefit!

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed Hula yet. I love this place! They have great lunch, but most recently I was here for breakfast. Since I was staying overnight in Edinburgh, just across the street from Hula, I finally had a good excuse to go here for my porridge. As a bit of a morning ritual, I normally have a porridge and a big cup or pot of loose breakfast tea. So I was extremely happy to find out that I could have both of these things for breakfast here. After reading through the menu of porridge options I decided to go with their popular honey and blueberry porridge. I thoroughly enjoyed this with it’s natural sweetness… and they give you a HUGE bowl of it. I had a lovely pot of Breakfast tea to accompany said porridge, and was more than pleased that they serve it at a nice strength unlike many other Edinburgh cafes. I’m always happy to return to Hula, and hope I get another chance for breakfast there in the future.

Hula hits the spot! This was my second visit to Hula, and it was just as impressive as the first. On a warm, sunny beautiful day in Edinburgh my esteemed colleague and I popped in for a healthful lunch. I had the Mexican hot wrap(tuna, avocado, veggies) and the house salad(bleu cheese, walnuts, apples)…GORGEOUS. Simply wonderful, and just what I had wanted. Followed with a delicious smoothie(hold the banana!) with rasperries, strawberries, blueberries and an antioxidant booster for good measure I felt a wee spring in my step as I exited. The staff are ever-so-lovely and unfailingly helpful. The place is a rainbow of colors and offerings, many items gluten-free, veggie-friendly, etc. Their listings of juices, smoothies, boosters and concoctions must be unparalleled! ALLTHEJUICE. ALLTHEFRUITS. ALLTHEVEGGIES.(And some cakes, for good measure, of course!) A must-stop in Edinburgh, will not disappoint . *free wifi(easy connection, passwords on tables!) *many outside tables in good weather, great location on a beautiful, bustling street.

Video link:
