Expensive, but good service. I am a big guy who often struggles to find clothing that looks good and fits right(I am in between sizes 2X and 3X) and so upon moving to the UK I knew that shopping for clothing would not be a fun experience. However, High & Mighty does make it easier for me to shop, albeit at higher prices than I would normally want to pay. I have purchased button up shirts, t-shirts, and a windbreaker at this location. Each time I was there I was greeted by a staff member, taken to what I was looking for, and was shown other things I may be interested in. The prices are full retail with very few sales, which would be the downside of shopping here. They have a good selection of brands I like, Like Polo Ralph Lauren, and they are more like a department store than a standard shop in terms of the brands they carry and the selection they have. I really like the people who work there as well, they are always asking me about school and life in the USA. They really do make an effort to be friendly and helpful. In the end, I would shop here until I no longer had to. They serve a purpose, but it certainly comes at a price. Shopping here is not cheap, especially if you like the nicer brands like I do.

Unfortunately, I’m taking this down a peg. A few weeks ago a new pair of jeans was required by that tall fella I hang around with. Unfortunately, high street doesn’t cut it and we headed here. I should put a wee disclaimer that I know very little about men’s clothes — but I do know what looks good on my man. When we entered he got measured again and the guy handed him a pair of jeans that were reasonably expensive(says the girl who only shops on eBay) and not the size we had just discussed. When I asked why, the sales assistant told me that size was difficult to come by and the size he recommended was all they had. We got two shades down and The OH went to try them on. In the mean time I had a look through the racks myself and found the exact size he was looking for, for half the price and in the exact colour he wanted. I handed them straight to the OH who was wearing the other jeans which the SA said ‘hang like that because of the cut’ — no, they hang like that because they’re 2 inches too big at the waist. The OH tried on the jeans I brought and preferred them(anyone would have). We then had a look at suit trousers. Again, I was told the sizing was awkward but after the last incident the SA managed to find the size we wanted without me having to look. When The OH emerged from the dressing room the sales assistant practically jumped between us in order to gush about these trousers fit so well — I felt this was an attempt to make us forget the previous incident. Despite previously having a nice experience here, this time I felt that the SA was trying to get The OH to buy the more expensive trousers, despite the fact they were the wrong size. And I’m going to go a but further and say that men shopping here probably feel awkward enough about sizing without having to put up with that. Additionally, I felt awkward and sidelined by the SA — regardless of his views, if a man wants his partner’s opinion she should be able to give it without the SA being snarky(same should be said if genders were reversed.) Overall, I’ve gone from being so happy to find a shop that is accommodating to the longer man, to not wanting to go back after this visit. That said, they still get a few stars for the quick alteration service and the fact they do cater to a smaller group of people.

You always hear about plus size ladies in fashion but what about the plus size guys? Until I stumbled across High and Mighty the other day, I’d never really thought about plus size guys but this shop caters for guys that are larger than the average Joe. Whether it’s a new suit, polo shirt, jacket, tee or any other item of clothing, there’s an excellent range on offer at High and Mighty. After mentioning it to my friends the other day I found out that one of my friends regularly goes here for shoes. He’s a size 13 and said he finds it almost impossible to get shoes to fit that don’t make him look like Herman Munster. At High and Mighty they stocked shoes from size 6 — 17! You know what they say about guys with big feet… big socks.

My other half is a surprisingly big bloke and finds it hard to get clothes in XX(cough)XL. Thankfully High and Mighty(or Big and Fat as he calls it) obviously caters for the bigger gent and he’s a regular there for the formal shirt, the polo or the occasional jacket. He knows all three staff members well and they regularly keep him informed with new stuff coming in or things that will be soon reduced in price(it could just be a fantastic customer service point where clothing used to be special). Sadly, the price reflects the size and it’s hard for him to go in and leave without spending a couple of hundred quid on a few things but there’s no where else really to get the stuff he needs. There’s a definite gap in the market there if anyone’s reading — once you fill it let me know because birthdays and Christmases are a nightmare. Great for me because I get to go in and sit on a comfy armchair and man-watch my exact type — BIGLADS!
