Fortune Cookie is a fairly standard Chinese restaurant. Situated in the Tollcross area of Edinburgh, Fortune Cookie is just a short walk from the city centre so it is a convenient place to reach. I have been to this restaurant twice, both times to takeaway, and I had a pretty pleasant experience. The woman who took my order was polite and was patient with me in explaining certain dishes on their menu. Fortune Cookie’s menu offers a wide range of authentic Chinese and Cantonese cuisine. The first time I came here I ordered the marinated duck in pecking duck which was absolutely amazing! It came with rice which was very well cooked, and the meal came to about eight pounds or so which was reasonable. It must have only taken about five minutes for my food to be cooked, which under different circumstances I probably would have been a bit suspect, but the food tasted amazing so I can’t complain! However, I was disappointed with my second takeaway here as I had sweet and sour chicken and the sauce was really gloopy and thick, and there was a funny oil residue on the dish. I haven’t been back to Fortune Cookie since as the sweet and sour chicken put me off, so it seems that the food here is quite hit and miss, but I could be wrong. There always seems to be a lovely atmosphere inside the restaurant so it would be good to eat in next time. I would like to give Fortune Cookie the benefit of the doubt and hope that my meal was a one off, but if I do go back here, I will definitely play it safe and order the duck again as that is guaranteed to be delicious.
