I did write a review back in April which is when i first moved to edinburgh and i was dreading finding a new salon, my first visit to Charlie Miller was not quite what i wanted, but they soon fixed this free of charge for me. I have been back twice since then and they have been amazing. I have Ros who tints my hair she is fantastic, really polite, honest, friendly and really knows her stuff. The last two times i have had my hair cut Megan who is a nearly qualified stylist has been cutting my hair for me, free of charge as she is still training but the standard she cuts is of someone who has been doing it for years. Megan asks all the right questions t make sure you get what you want. When i next go back Megan will be qualified, so no more free cuts for me ;-). I feel happy that i have found a salon and two Fabulous members of staff who i can trust to do a good job. I love my new cut Megan, well done.

I went in to have a colour consultation as I wanted to dye my hair back to its natural colour. One of the stylists, Saphy, talked me through different things we could do. She was very knowledgeable and friendly, putting me at ease with the knowledge that I was in good hands. When I went in to get highlights I was really pleased by the outstanding service I received and the results were as good as I’d hoped for. It’s definitely worth saving the pennies to go there, rather than opting for a cheaper salon which isn’t as good.

Normally I dread walking into a hair salon. The bright lights, being surrounded by mirrors and the surly looks from some of the staff. This was most definitely not the case with the Charlie Miller branch based in St Andrews Square. I was greeted warmly upon arriving, probably because I had a look of sheer terror on my face — I really don’t hair salons — but the receptionist/lady that spoke to me soon put me at ease. Even though I arrived 20 minutes early for my appointment I was not left waiting and was ushered to have my hair washed. Because I had booked on-line — a really handy service — and had only done so the night before I had no idea what to expect from my stylist. Turns out Katie was wonderful. I explained that my hair had been butchered at another salon and needed it fixed after having to wear it up for three weeks. She talked me through what she thought was the best way to fix the cut and because she is the ‘pro’ I went with it. I left feeling totally pampered and so pleased with my style! The products she used really accentuated the layers and I was so pleased with this salon. The 40% student discount really helps but I would definitely still go after the treatment I received. I thoroughly recommend this particular to branch to anyone and Katie as a stylist. Thank you!

I think that the salon is good but rather expensive for the service that you receive. I loved my color done by Rosie but the cut was below average. If the cut had been great, I would return but felt it was too expensive for the end result.

I think I was being naïve in thinking that all Charlie Millers would be the same!!! When I went to this branch I had a totally different experience than the times I’ve visited the Harvey Nichols one. Firstly, the entire salon was empty, I was the only person there(and it was 4pm!) and all the staff were mucking around in the seats — I would do the same though. The girl who cut my hair seemed to be the same age as me and although she was really lovely and chatty, she didn’t do a very good job! I was getting a fringe cut in(or bangs, depending on where you are) and I have since found out that it was cut in a really bad way. It was really expensive too, I paid £38 for my average-cut! My friend came here the other week to get her hair dyed, and came out with a bleached jumper and stained jeans from the hair dye. I do like Charlie Millers, I like it a lot, but I will avoid this branch!

I went to Charlie Miller purely because with Snap fax students get a pretty good deal of 40% off on certain days/times of the week. My cut and blow dry cost a very reasonable £17 which in this economy is fantastic. The salon is modern and stylish with huge mirrors so you can admire yourself while getting the chop. There seemed to be a large amount of trendy staff sporting funky haircuts bustling around and having a bitch with each other. My hairdresser was your standard hairdresser with not much to say apart from telling me off for not getting my hair cut every six weeks. It got to the stage where I felt like she was going to pin me down and make me book 6 weekly appointments for the foreseeable future. So now the important part, the haircut. The girl barely listened to what I asked for and rushed the whole thing. She then proceeded to volumize my hair in a manner which left me looking like a 60’s Barbarella. I sat looking horrified and prayed for her to finish so I could get out of there. As soon as I did get out I promptly scraped my hair into a ponytail to hide the beehive on my head. My idea of a successful trip to the hairdresser does not result in me hiding the results.

I really like Charlie Miller, but can only afford to go there with the 40% student discount(Mon-Thurs only). It has a really nice clean atmosphere, and the staff always listen to exactly what I want with my cut and colour, and are helpful about after care for my hair(such as what shampoo to use). There are always plenty of magazines to read, and you are offered tea/coffee etc again and again! This branch of CM tends to be less busy than some of the others in the city, and so it can be easier to get an appointment at short notice.
